Ford has announced that all EcoBoost-powered F-150 models will now come with stop-start technology. Ford says the change will be added to help conserve fuel. The turbocharged 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 features stop-start as a standard feature, but now F-150 trucks with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost will also feature stop-start, and this also includes the high-output version of the engine that will be featured in the 2017 Raptor.

The stop-start function shuts the engine off when idling at stop lights and restarts it when the driver takes their foot off the brake pedal. The stop-start system won’t work when the truck is towing or when it’s in four-wheel drive mode. Ford has previously employed stop-start systems in many of its hybrid vehicles along with with its other small EcoBoost engines.

Ford did not disclose specific fuel economy numbers for the new trucks, as it only noted that “actual fuel savings vary depending on driving patterns.”
