Three-time SCORE Baja 1000 champion Robby Gordon and veteran navigator Kellon Welch will head off the line in the fifth starting position for today’s 2015 SCORE Baja 1000 race today, which leaves from Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico.
This year’s 48th running of the SCORE Baja 1000 features 31 of the world’s best desert racers in the top Trophy Truck division, with racers tackling the 821-mile course over the span of nearly 15 hours. Gordon, a seven-time SCORE International Off-Road Champion and a five-time Baja 500 winner, will drive the entire race himself piloting the No. 77 SPEED Energy / Toyo Tires/ TRAXXAS Chevrolet trophy truck back to the finish.
The race course will travel on both sides of the Baja California peninsula from Ensenada South to Rosario, East to San Agustin, North along the Gulf of California and back west towards the finish in Ensenada. Only four trucks will start ahead of the SPEED Energy / Toyo Tires / TRAXXAS trophy truck of Gordon, as he qualified fifth in a time of 3 minutes 31 seconds on the qualifying course in Las Vegas, Nevada, during the 2015 SEMA Show.
