PICKERINGTON, Ohio — Four years ago, Lynn Plog from Deer Grove, Ill., committed to dual-sport motorcycling. Since then, he has attended several events on the American Motorcyclist Association National Dual Sport Series calendar each year.

That commitment has paid off. Plog won the new bike from 2014 series sponsor Husqvarna — a 2015 Husqvarna TE350.

“I am just about ready to jump up and down,” said Plog, 64. “Dual sport riding is the best entertainment you can buy for a couple hundred dollars. This makes it even better. Thank you to everyone for this. It’s really exciting.”

For Husqvarna, the series has been a good platform for showcasing its dual-sport lineup to AMA members.

“It’s been gratifying to sponsor the AMA National Dual Sport Series these past three years,” said Jenna Parker, marketing lead for Husqvarna. “This series features the best of the best among quality events in the United States, and it fits our branding perfectly.”

The easy-going adventure of dual-sport riding is what keeps bringing Plog back to the sport.

“Dual sport is just a fun time,” he said. “You pay your $100 to $120, and you have your weekend of fun. You get fed. You get some free gifts and camaraderie. You get done around Sunday afternoon, and then you drive home and get ready for work Monday morning. Well, I used to. I just retired this year, so now I can go ride dual sport all the time. I’m already signed up for my first one this year.

“Plus, you are supporting the people who are out there trying to keep access to land for us to ride on,” he adds. “You’re getting money out to them.”

Even before he retired, Plog rode quite a bit, all over the country, with each ride on the AMA national series calendar contributing to his chance to win the raffle bike each year.

“I finished up last year by doing two dual sports in New Jersey and then driving to Wickenburg, Ariz., to ride that event,” he said. “Before that, I did Land Between the Lakes and my favorite ride, the Buffalo 500 in Indiana, as well as the Hanging Rock in Ohio. I usually do the Baby Burr in Ohio, but I missed that last year.”

The annual AMA national dual-sport series prize drawing, conducted by the independent auditing and accounting firm of Plante & Moran of Columbus, Ohio, included participants in all events on the national dual-sport calendar.
