At this year’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan, the new 2015 F-150 beat out the Chevy Colorado and Lincoln MKC to take the title for the North American Truck of the Year.
“Ford is honored to be named the best among such a strong field of competitors,” said Joe Hinrichs, Ford president of The Americas. “Ford employees and customers have a lot to be proud of with the innovative and award-winning F-150.”
The new F-150 features an all-new aluminum body for 2015, which helped trim down up to 700 lbs. versus the previous F-150 in some configurations. There are four engine options for 2015, with two new power plants that include a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 and a new 2.3-liter EcoBoost V6. Ford also offers a 5.0-liter V8 and a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6.
Ford leads the half-ton segment with a class-leading 12,200-pound tow rating and 3,000-pound maximum payload rating, when properly equipped. A host of segment-first features including a trailer light check system, a set of exterior spotlights and a 360-degree around view camera are all present on the F-150.
The win by F-150 is the eighth time a Ford vehicle has won Truck/Utility of the Year. This is the 22nd year for the awards.
