Pomona, Calif.—Held amidst the festive atmosphere of the popular Lucas Oil Off-Road Expo at the expansive SCORE Baja 1000 exhibit, official early entries from 25 U.S. States and 12 countries were included the drawing for start positions in various classes for the upcoming 47th Anniversary of the legendary Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 desert race.
For this year’s granddaddy of all desert races, which will be held Nov. 11-15, Saturday’s drawing for the mammoth finale of the 2014 SCORE World Desert Championship was held in the unique SCORE Baja 1000 exhibit at this weekend’s Lucas Oil Off-Road Expo at the Fairplex in Pomona, Calif.
The official course map for the race was also unveiled Saturday by SCORE CEO/President Roger Norman to begin the drawing event. Norman also announced that because of the severe damage caused by the recent hurricane, additional changes will be made to the course prior to the start of pre-running on Monday, Oct. 13.
A solid total of 125 vehicles officially entered in time for Saturday’s drawing for the season finale of the 2014 SCORE World Desert Championship. Nearly 150 additional entries are expected to enter before the first green flag drops on Thursday, Nov. 13 in Ensenada.
All classes, except for SCORE Trophy Truck and the unlimited Class 1, were part of Saturday’s start draw. SCORE Trophy Truck, the marquee SCORE racing division for high-tech, 850-horsepower, unlimited production trucks and Class 1 will have a special qualifying session for start positions on Tuesday, Nov. 4 on a special 3.6-mile course at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The two top SCORE racing classes will be featured that week in a massive SEMA SCORE Baja 1000 Experience during the SEMA Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
The SCORE Baja 1000 exhibit in Building 5 at the Off-Road Expo, a salute to SCORE Baja legends, concludes from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Expected on hand for autographs and photos include Roger Norman, Ivan Stewart, Rob MacCachren, B.J. Baldwin, Colton Udall, Ricky Brabec, Jonathan and Jordan Brenthal, Justin Lofton and Robert Acer.
Over 250 entries, from 40 U.S. States and 24 countries are expected to compete in this year’s 47th annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000. SCORE is celebrating its 41st year as the world’s foremost desert racing organization in 2014. This year’s race will cover nearly 1,200 miles down Mexico’s majestic Baja California peninsula, starting in Ensenada, Baja California and finishing in La Paz, Baja California Sur. The race will feature competition in 25 Pro and 5 Sportsman classes for cars, trucks, UTVs, Motorcycles and ATVs.
