RENO, Nev.—SCORE International, the global desert racing organization that has held events for over four decades on Mexico’s Baja California peninsula, has joined the massive relief efforts to assist the thousands of people impacted by last Sunday’s devastating Category 3 Hurricane Odile. While the hurricane pummeled the entire peninsula, especially hard hit was the southern State of Baja California Sur.
In the midst of final preparations for November’s 47th Annual SCORE Baja 1000 that will start in Ensenada and finish in La Paz, SCORE has been working with Cruz Roja Mexicana (the Mexican Red Cross) since this terrible event to facilitate movement of supplies down the length of the peninsula.
“All of us connected with SCORE are rallying to help in any way we can to help alleviate the suffering our Baja friends are enduring at this time. We applaud and encourage all efforts being put forth by the SCORE racing community and others to get much needed supplies and funds to the Baja population as quickly as possible,” stated SCORE International officials.
While supplies are desperately needed at this time and racers and crews are working together to gather and deliver them, Cruz Roja Mexicana has also opened special bank accounts in the U.S. and Mexico for donations…

CRUZ ROJA MEXICANA (Mexican Red Cross)
Through the years, Cruz Roja Mexicana has been the main organization that provides Emergency support services and relief activities when it’s needed by the communities affected by hurricanes, earthquakes, major disasters and emergencies in general in Mexico.
The close coordination of Cruz Roja Mexicana with Federal, State and Municipal governments through the Country, has made this humanitarian organization the best way to reach out and help the people in need. The fast and coordinated efforts with the Mexican Army and the Mexican Navy, have helped bring relief to remote communities in an organized and responsible way.
SCORE’s CEO/President, Roger Norman commented, “These are some of the important reasons why SCORE International has proudly joined forces with such a professional and reliable organization as the Cruz Roja Mexicana. They are an integral part of every event that SCORE produces in Mexico.”

‘BAJA STRONG-Off-Roaders Hurricane Relief’
Several SCORE race teams have formed the ‘Baja Strong-Off-Roaders Hurricane Relief’ group to quickly help assist the immediate needs of the people of Baja. Spearheaded by Mexico’s Gus Vildosola Jr. and U.S. racers Cameron Steele and Ryan Thomas with coordination by team logistics specialist Tim Sanchez, donation centers have been identified and caravans are delivering goods and supplies with police and military escorts arranged by SCORE.
Vildosola’s Mexicali-based Mexicana Logistics has committed to use a portion of its fleet of semi trucks to transport relief items to centrally located staging locations.
The Baja Strong group is using two Mexicana Logistics headquarters to collect the items for transport.
Items needed include: canned food/good of any kind, diapers, bleach, cleaning supplies, buckets, brooms, towels, blankets, personal hygiene items.
