CONCORD, N.C. – A near-capacity crowd at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway watched an epic battle between Scott Douglas and Adrian Cenni Saturday night that resulted in Douglas earning his first TORC: The Off-Road Championship Presented by AMSOIL PRO 4 victory since Joliet in 2012.
CJ Greaves broke out the broom, sweeping both PRO 2 races in the Husqvarna Showdown in Charlotte while Jarett Brooks took the PRO Light win, becoming the first driver in that class to make multiple trips to the top spot on the podium. Douglas started the PRO 4 race on the pole, but didn’t remain there long as Cenni battled him for the lead throughout the first half of the race. Johnny Greaves, Friday night’s victor, saw challenges from Mark Jenkins and Mike Jenkins for third. After the competition yellow, the four drivers made a frantic dash for the top spot, at one point diving into Turn 3 four wide. During the battle, Cenni earned his nickname of The Wildman as he lost a right-front tire but continued to race wide open. Despite a late-race challenge from Mark Jenkins, Douglas was able to take the top spot with Mark finishing second and Mike Jenkins rounding out the podium.
In PRO 2, CJ Greaves dominated the race. Chad Hord, in what looks to be the top fight for the class title this season, made a valiant effort for the win, but finished second. Jeff Kincaid was able to bring home a third-place finish.
PRO Light continued to be the wildest race of the weekend. CJ Greaves and Mittag traded the lead early with Keegan Kincaid making a strong run for P1, but a mis-timed jump in the final turn prior to the competition yellow put the defending champ squarely on the back of Mittag’s truck. The contact slowed Kincaid down and collected Greaves. Greaves fell to the back and was able to finish third, but was never a factor for the lead.
After the racing resumed, Kincaid was mixing it up with teammates Mittag and Brooks, giving the fans an amazing show, when he landed on his roof for the second night in a row. The champ was hot when he climbed out of his ride, ensuring the PRO Light race at the upcoming event at Bark River will have similar fireworks. Brooks would go on to his second win of the season with teammate Mittag in the runner-up position.
