MEDFORD, OR – Motorcycle Superstore/Bell support rider Justin Brayton had the crowd on their feet as he held off the top Supercross riders in the world, eventually landing on the podium with a solid second place finish.
Brayton grabbed the lead out of the gate and held it for 14 of the 20 laps before three-time Supercross champion Ryan Villopoto could make the pass for first and the eventual win. It wasn’t an easy win, though, for Villopoto as Brayton pushed back hard, showing Villopoto his front wheel on the last lap and almost taking back the lead.
“I got a great jump out of the gate, the start was so slick and I knew lining up I needed to get a good start, and that’s what I did,” said Brayton. “Sometime it’s hard to execute, but I did tonight, and I put myself in a great position. I need to keep putting myself in those positions and I think I’ll win one of these.”
Brayton’s impressive finish in Phoenix came on the heels of his sixth place finish at the first round in Anaheim. With his combined points, Brayton is now 4th in the points standings (37) behind Villopoto (43), Ryan Dungy (42) and Ken Roczen (40).
Round three of the series returns to Anaheim, California on January 18.
