The Dakar Desert Challenge is a trans-Saharan expedition without competitive nature, which bridges two continents, Europe and Africa, through Portugal, Spain, Morocco, Mauritania, Guinea-Bissau, Gambia and ends in Dakar, Senegal. The event aims to recreate the great moments of escape and adventure of the mythical race “Paris-Dakar” with the possibility of participation of various types of motor vehicles and people with different levels of experience in long trips.
A 2nd Edition of this event, as in the earlier, will have the prologue from Coruche. On December 26, apart from the formalities, the caravan will make a route of about 40km around the municipality of Coruche, seizing the moment to make known the landscape of Ribatejo, rural zone of Portugal. The characteristics of the territory is a sufficient reason to make this first step a exciting prelude to the fantastic journey that will take your final destination in January 9, 2014.
This year’s edition make part of the adventure 13 motorcycles, 45 4×4 vehicles, 3 4×2 vehicles, a truck and also six cars of the organization staff. Over a hundred people who will participate in this adventure and to whom the organization only asks a good dose of courage, spirit of adventure and good mood!
This edition also has a supportive component translated in the slogan “travel for a better world, helping to change” the difficult living conditions of the people of Guinea-Bissau, an initiative to aid created by Dakar Desert Challenge The Guinea-Bissau is one of the world’s poorest countries, with much of its population living below the poverty line, fueled by economic and political instability in the country.
The joint mission will deliver basic school supplies, literacy adult material, medicines, hospital supplies and small hospital supporting equipment for the Guinean NGO “AD – Action for Development (www.adbissau.org)”, which develops educational and health projects in the regions of Cacheu, Tombali and in Quelele neighborhood in Bissau. Other NGOs to operate in the territory, as the “Silo Gambasse (www.silogb.com)”, will also be supported and await the caravan with great expectation. The transport of donated material is guaranteed for organizing and participants in the Dakar Desert Challenge in their cars, with delivery made in a phased manner over the crossing of Guinea-Bissau.
From Portugal to the African continent, will surely be a great trip!
