SAN DIEGO — Finalists have been determined and online voting among the top three in each category will continue until11:59 p.m. next Wednesday, Dec. 11 for the 2013 SCORE Off-Roadsman Awards. Four decades of the World’s Foremost Desert Racing Organization-SCORE International-will be celebrated Saturday, Dec. 14 at San Diego’s Town & Country Resort during the 2013 SCORE Awards Night gala.
At the Town & Country, located in the hotel circle area of central San Diego, nearly 400 SCORE racers, family, friends, crews, sponsors and media will bask in the Southern California sunshine as the SCORE Awards Night will honor the 40-year history and fame of the name which is the standard for desert racing worldwide. The event is open to fans as well and the evening will include enhanced technical theatrics and pageantry never before part of the SCORE Awards Night.
Emcees for the evening will be desert racing stars Cameron Steele and Johnny Campbell.
In addition to the special SCORE Achievement Awards and the 42 Pro, 7 Sportsman class champions and three overall point champions who will be honored in the Golden Pavilion room at the Town & Country, another highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the annual SCORE Off-Roadsman Awards. The evening will also include the presentation of the inaugural World Championship of Desert Racing awards being given to qualified point leaders with combined points between SCORE and the High Desert Racing Association, also owned by Norman.
Individuals as well as manufacturers and organizations are honored through nine distinct awards, whose winners are decided by several thousand SCORE fans through online voting including the entire SCORE membership of more than 2,000. Among the awards to be presented are SCORE Rookie of the year, SCORE Contingency Company of the year, SCORE Pit Support Team of the year, SCORE Mechanic of the year and SCORE Person of the year. Voting is being conducted through www.score-international.com.
Two additional 2013 SCORE Off-Roadsman have already been determined by points earned during the season. The SCORE Original Buggy Chassis Manufacturer of the Year is once again Jimco of San Diego while the SCORE Engine Builder of the Year is once again Las Vegas’ Kroyer Racing Engines.
Another element of the diverse program will be the presentation of the SCORE Toyota Milestone Awards. As it has for 28 years, the coveted Toyota Milestone Awards are presented to those drivers in four-wheel vehicle classes who finish every required mile of the 2013 SCORE Desert Series. A total of 30 racers completed all 1,638.1 required miles in the three-race 2013 SCORE Desert Series.
The evening will include a colorful video/photographic tribute to the 2013 SCORE Desert Series produced by Dirt LiveHD and GetSomePhoto.
A pre-awards reception will start the festivities at 6 p.m., followed by the dinner, a special tribute to the 2013 SCORE season and presentations at 7 p.m.
