(Agua Dulce, Calif.,) With pre-registration for the fifth annual General Tire NORRA Mexican 1000 set to take place on New Year’s Day, KC HiLites is celebrating 2014 a bit early by announcing its return as “Official Light” of the vintage-themed off-road rally. Based in Williams, Arizona, KC HiLites’ involvement with the Mexican 1000 began in 2012 – a year that saw several major automotive aftermarket companies join NORRA’s growing family of corporate partners.
Scheduled for May 10-14, next year’s General Tire NORRA Mexican 1000 is expected to attract a record number of entries from around the globe. For the first time in its history, the 2014 edition of the popular rally will begin in Ensenada, Baja, Mexico and includes a new format with separate routes for two and four-wheel vehicles in the interest of enhancing competitor safety.
In keeping with a now-familiar NORRA tradition, 2014 rally registration officially opens on January 1 at 12:00pm noon Pacific Standard Time (PST). NORRA is confident that interest expressed by first-time competitors for next year’s Mexican 1000 will boost entries numbers well past the record field of 148 teams set in April, 2013
KC has been a pioneer in high quality off-road lighting since 1970. Its familiar yellow light cover has become one of desert racings most iconic brand logos. Many of the vintage trucks, buggies, motorcycles and sedans that will compete in this year’s four-day, 1,200 mile competition will be counting on KC lights to help illuminate the infamous Baja darkness. KC HiLites products will be utilized on all the rally’s official pace trucks and support vehicles as well.
“KC HiLiTES is honored and enthusiastic about extending our relationship with the NORRA Mexican 1000 for 2014 and beyond,” explained company President Michael DeHaas. “This has become one of our marque events on the annual motorsports calendar. It’s also an ideal relationship for KC, as it keeps us connected with our heritage. We enjoy being part of a fun and truly unique event that’s really grown to impressive levels of interest and media coverage.”
“Today’s announcement is like getting an early Christmas present wrapped a bright yellow cover,” explained NORRA President Mike Pearlman. “Both Michael DeHaas and his wife Michele join us in San Jose Del Cabo for the rally’s finish each year. They are part of our family and it wouldn’t be the same without them or KC HiLites.”
In addition to KC HiLites, NORRA is also supported by General Tire, American Racing Wheel, Azunia Tequila, South Point Hotel and Casino, Walker Evans Racing, Bilstein Shocks and MasterCraft Safety.
