Radar Tires customer Bill Belansky entered this weekend’s season finale Lucas Oil Regional Off Road Shootout at Lake Elsinore Motorsports with hopes of a Desert Buggy championship title. Belansky looks to win the championship title not only for his team, but also for his co-pilot in the race.
Co-driving with Belansky in the No. 3012 Kryptonight Industries Predator X18 buggy is Brian Meyer, Warfighter Made co-founder and wounded veteran. In addition, the buggy livery lists the names of 25 Recon Marines and Corpsmen that gave their lives for freedom.
Meyer served more than 12 years before medically retiring in March 2013. As a United States Marine, he served three tours – two in Iraq (Fallujah and Al Taqaddum) and one in Sangin, Afghanistan, in the Helmand Provence. Meyer was an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team Leader. In 2011, while attempting to defuse a roadside bomb in Afghanistan, it detonated. As a result, Meyer lost his right arm above the wrist, right leg below the knee and suffered severe damage to his left hand.
Meyer has been awarded two Navy Commendation medals with Combat “V” devices, Navy Achievement medal, two combat action ribbons, Operation Enduring Freedom service medal, Operation Iraqi Freedom Service medal and a Purple Heart.
Belansky and the race team have a special partnership with the non-profit organization Warfighter Made. The mission of Warfighter Made is to provide recreational therapy to ill, injured and combat wounded service members and veterans. The organization offers extended options for to assist in the physical and mental therapy and long term wellness of service men and women through the modification and customization of vehicles including cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles and off road vehicles.
