Escanaba, MI – The battle for the TORC Super Stock Championship came down the final lap of the season and for the second year in a row Danny Beauchamp handled the pressure to claim his second consecutive championship. The Labor Day Weekend event in Crandon not only saw Beauchamp compete in the final two rounds of the TORC Sportsman season, but the team competed in Friday evening’s B & L SAND TOYS Sportsman Trophy Race. Needless to say the Upper Peninsula crew rose to the occasion every time Beauchamp hit the track.
The weekend of racing for Danny Beauchamp and the #826 Coplan’s Iron & Metal/Hill Top RV Superstore/JC’s Mobile Wash/Splash of Color/Pike Distributors Ford F-150 began with the B & L SAND TOYS Sportsman Trophy Race. The race was similar the weekend ending AMSOIL CUP, but this race put nearly thirty Sportsman race trucks representing four truck classes, starting at three separate times, out on the track for over $13,000 in cash and product. Beauchamp at one point led the middle stages of the race, but two racers from the quicker classes were able to make clean passes around the Coplan’s Iron & Metal Super Stock Truck. Even with that said, Beauchamp kept charging and finished third overall, taking home over $2,000 for his efforts.
The next day not only was it the penultimate round of racing for the TORC Super Stock Championship, it was World Championship Saturday at Crandon International Off-Road Raceway. Heading into the race Beauchamp was ten points out the championship lead, and he needed a win to keep his title hopes alive. Well that’s exactly what the Upper Peninsula resident did, he edged out Nick Byng by .189 seconds for the win. The performance also brought him another Crandon World Championship ring.
Sunday’s final round of racing saw the four title contending truck swap several positions between themselves during the first half of the race. There was definitely some serious paint swapping happening and somehow Beauchamp finished far enough up the finishing order as the two other contenders found themselves well down at the checkered flag. Ultimately Danny Beauchamp’s fifth place finish was enough to win the 2013 TORC Super Stock Championship.
“We had set some high goals for our team this year,” noted Danny Beauchamp. “Early in the season we were fast, but just couldn’t close the deal. By mid-season we won some races and somehow we were back in the race for the championship. The win Saturday was awesome, it really gave us a chance to take the title on Sunday. Then we decided to run the B & L Sportsman Race on Friday, not knowing if it could damage our chances at the championship. We ran it and for a lap or two it looked like we might win, but finishing third was still great. This weekend was really all about winning the championship again. I can’t say enough about my guys, without them the championship wouldn’t be possible. It all starts from the support from my parents and our crazy big family, my incredible crew chief Kevin Frossard, my head mechanic Jeff Solomon, and all my friends that come and lend a hand. This season started slowly, but we never gave up, and it now we are World Champions and Super Stock Champions again.”
