Lena, WI – The Labor Day Weekend Crandon Off-Road World Championship wasn’t only the final weekend of racing for the TORC Stock Truck competitors, but it’s Saturday’s “Run for the Ring” that brings out record turnouts by racers as well as fans. Cory Marquardt and his McGuire’s Sports Bar/Jane Classic Touch/Todd’s Custom Graphix/Metal Storm/Andy’s Shock Repair/ATD/BFGoodrich Tire Chevy Stock Truck ran a near perfect weekend as he won his first World Championship ring on Saturday and took home the TORC Sportsman Stock Truck Championship on Sunday.
The TORC Stock Truck division is designed as a very affordable form of short-course off-road racing. The rules allow for minimal performance modifications, but the race trucks must meet the same safety requirements as the faster trucks in the TORC series. As in all TORC Sportsman classes, the great friendships between competitors is unlike any other form of motorsports.
The seven lap Round 5 race was not only the second to last points race of the year, but it’s the World Championship round. The race had a few different leaders among the eleven starters, but in the final laps Marquardt got the job done taking the win and the Ring.
Overnight the Marquardt crew double checked everything on the bright orange Chevy truck, and knew that a top five finish would secure the championship.
The final race of the season had Marquardt running up front during the first half of the race, but on the restart after the mandatory caution, there was some serious bumping and pushing going on as the orange Chevy was shuffled back to sixth place. Now Cory had to quickly gather his thoughts and get back towards the front of the field.
Determined to win his first TORC Championship, Cory kept his cool and made his way up to second place before the waving of the checkered flag. The podium finish gave Cory Marquardt the TORC Stock Truck Championship.
During the six rounds of racing for the TORC Stock Truck Championship Marquardt had five podium finishes which included four wins, one runner-up finish, and of course the World Championship ring.
“Wow can you believe this, what a weekend,” commented Cory Marquardt. “Our goal this year was to win the championship, and we did it. My family really supports my racing and we really have fun at the track. My family and friends is my crew and this weekend would not be possible without them. This sport is incredible. This weekend has been incredible. Then to win the ring on Saturday…. You come to Crandon every fall just hoping to someday win on Saturday so you can be called World Champion, be are a part of the ceremony and now we are.”
Cory Marquardt would like to thank everyone that has supported his team this season including: McGuire’s Sports Bar, Jane Classic Touch, Todd’s Custom Graphix, Metal Storm, Andy’s Racing Shock Repair, Auto Trans Design, BFGoodrich Tire, and of course his family and friends.
