Torrance, CA: The 2013 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship series came to a dramatic close Saturday night at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, NV before 39,504 race fans.

Team Honda Muscle Milk’s Justin Barcia finished fifth, wrapping up his rookie year fourth overall in the championship points chase. It was an unbelievable night for Muscle Milk-backed GEICO Honda’s Wil Hahn, who secured his first-ever 250 Supercross Championship with a second-place-overall finish in the main event. Although his teammate wasn’t able to bring home the West championship, Eli Tomac rode an incredible race, taking home his fifth main-event win of the season.

450 Race
450 Supercross rookie Justin Barcia had a successful 2013 season, winning two main events, earning three more podium finishes and placing in the top five seven additional times. With the fourth-quickest qualifying time in practice, Barcia got a less-than-desirable start in his heat race but put together an incredible come-from-behind charge to finish fourth. In the main event, he jumped off the line to a mid-pack start and was able to work his way into fifth overall, which is where he finished.

“Tonight was so gnarly,” Barcia said. “The track was really slick and difficult. I felt good most of the day but started to tighten up in the main. I wanted more wins, but overall this has been a good season. It’s tough transitioning from only doing half the series to now riding the entire thing; I think that is what has been the hardest for me. I’m ready to work hard on the off weekend and head into Motocross. Hopefully I can get some more wins.”

After a third-place finish in his heat, Team Honda Muscle Milk’s Trey Canard jumped off the line to a 15th-place start in the main event. Within the first half of the race he had made his way into 10th, but unfortunately was unable to finish the 20-lap race after getting hit in the face by rock.

250 Race
In the final race of the Eastern Regional 250 Supercross class Muscle Milk-backed GEICO Honda’s Wil Hahn finished third overall in the main event, which was enough for him to wrap up his first professional title by three points. Despite a hard crash in practice that left him pretty banged up, Hahn showed incredible determination in earning his third-place overall finish. This was a fairytale season for Hahn who finished on the podium at nine of nine races and held the points lead the majority of the season.

“This is seriously like a dream for me,” said Hahn. “ To win the title with GEICO Honda, my second family, is just unbelievable. There have been times in my career when I doubted if this would ever happen but the guys on this team never gave up on me. Their faith in me pushed me to levels I didn’t think were possible. I feel like I should also dedicate my championship to the Asterick medical crew, who really took care of me after my crash today and made it possible for me to race. This is an unreal dream and I don’t ever want to wake up.”

Teammate Eli Tomac rode incredibly well in the final round of the Western Regional 250 Supercross class main event, clinching his fifth victory of the season. Unfortunately, his win wasn’t enough to secure him the championship and he ultimately finished in second place, a mere two points back.

“Oakland cost me the championship,” described Tomac. “Not earning any points there killed it. I did all I could to catch back up but Roczen rode well almost everywhere and he got the title. I probably had one of the best races of my life tonight. I was back in fifth off the start but just told myself to go for it, and I was able to make my way into the lead. I am pretty disappointed but I saw that Roczen had passed Davalos on one of the last laps and there was nothing I could do. I am ready to rest up and head into the outdoors.”

Zach Osborne had a trying night aboard his Muscle Milk-sponsored GEICO Honda CRF250R, getting a good start in the main event but going down early knocked him out of the contest. Osborne finished the season in seventh overall with one podium finish to his credit.

The Focus: Carter Powersports Dealer Appearance
The Honda Red Riders headed to Carter Powersports in Las Vegas on Friday, May 3rd to spend time with race fans and sign autographs. In attendance were Team Honda Muscle Milk’s Trey Canard and Justin Barcia, along with GEICO Honda’s Eli Tomac, Wil Hahn and Zach Osborne. It was one of the best turnouts of the year with fans coming from all over the country, and internationally to meet their favorite racers.
