2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk
Three different four-wheel-drive systems are available on the Cherokee. First off is the Active Drive 1, which is available on the Sport, Latitude and Limited models. This system is a fully automatic that moves in and out of four-wheel drive at any speed. Active Drive II is also available on the Sport, Latitude and Limited models, offering an ride heigh increase of an inch and a crawl ratio of 56:1 (2.4-liter engine) or 47.8:1 (with the 3.2-liter Pentastar V-6). Jeep Active Drive Lock is the final option, offering all of the features of Active Drive II but adding a locking rear differential for more serious off-roading. Active Drive Lock is standard equipment on the Trailhawk model.
The 2014 Cherokee also features Jeep’s Selec-Terrain traction control system with five different modes to select depending upon the terrain – Auto, Snow, Sport, Sand/Mud and Rock. Off-roaders might be most drawn to the Trailhawk model, which offers improved approach and departure angles, a one-inch factory lift, the aforementioned Jeep Active Drive Lock system, skid plates and red tow hooks. Running ground clearance on the Trailhawk is 8.7 inches. The departure angle is 29.8 degrees, a departure angle of 32.1 degrees and a breakover angle of 23.3 degrees. The Trailhawk also receives Jeep’s “Trail Rated” badge, indicating the vehicles is actually off-road capable in five key categories – traction, ground clearance, maneuverability, articulation and water fording.
