Corona, CA – Robby Bell, Steve Hengeveld and David Pearson are ready to carry the momentum of recent wins south of the border next week at the MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250. They’ll split seat time as usual aboard their THR Motorsports / Monster Energy / Precision Concepts Kawasaki KX450F, meticulously prepared by Bob Bell of Precision Concepts, in the first of three SCORE races.
While this will be the first race SCORE has produced under the helm of new owner Roger Norman, the THR trio expects no surprises in the one-loop, 254-mile course that employs a mix of new and old tracks.
Bell and Pearson, of course, started 2013 on a winning note when they came from behind to win the THR Motorsports Parker 250, round one in Best in the Desert’s American Off-road Racing Series, in January. They then backed that up by topping round two last weekend, the GPR Stabilizers Laughlin U.S. Hare Scrambles. (THR-supported Ricky Brabec and Ty Renshaw took a strong third overall.) And you can’t overlook Bell’s first-ever victory at round two of the WORCS tour earlier this month.
All of this bodes well for the THR Motorsports squad that led the early going in San Felipe last year before a few crashes cost them valuable time, though they continued and finished sixth in Class 22.
With a year of experience in Baja–which includes its historic Baja 500 win–the team is better prepared, highly motivated and anticipates an enjoyable week in the Mexican town on the western shores of the Sea of Cortez, starting with crucial but often enjoyable days of pre-running and culminating in what they hope is a post-race victory celebration.
