Morgantown, W. Va. (September 12, 2012) – After a two-month summer break, the 2012 Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series returns to action this weekend, September 15 and 16, for Round 10 of the 13-race series. Three-time ATV champion Chris Borich looks to wrap up his fourth consecutive title at Unadilla in New Berlin, N.Y., already sweeping eight of nine rounds this season.
However, there’s still a chance for Ballance Racing Yamaha’s Taylor Kiser as he sits within striking distance of the defending champ with four rounds remaining. Kiser is the only rider besides Borich to get a race-win this season and the Florida native has his sights set on contending the championship until the very end.
Ballance Racing Yamaha’s Walker Fowler sits only five points behind his teammate, Kiser, in the championship point standings. Fowler has put forth an impressive rookie season in the ATV Pro class, and the young gun has shown he has what it takes to be competitive at the highest level.
Precision/Moto X Perts/ITP/Lonestar/RG Motorsports’ Adam McGill suffered an injury that affected his results in Rounds 7 and 8 but since then, McGill has recovered well enough to finish second in the last round. McGill only sits four points away from Motoworks/Can-Am’s Chris Bithell for the fourth place spot in the standings. Bithell has put in consistent finishes this season and doesn’t sit far behind Fowler for third place.
Bowers Motorcycle/Coastal National Guard/Yokley Racing’s Jarrod McClure currently sits sixth in the standings, heading a pack of four riders who are separated by less than ten points. BNR’s Kevin Yoho has been consistent all season long, putting him only four points behind McClure for sixth.
JG Offroad/FRE/American Honda’s Brian Wolf has struggled with consistency this season after being plagued with a hand infection at the beginning of the season. Wolf has salvaged three top five finishes to keep himself within striking distance of Yoho’s seventh place spot. And then there’s GBC/Cernics/HMF/Yamaha’s Johnny Gallagher, the only rider besides Borich to have top ten finishes in all nine rounds. Gallagher currently sits tied for points with Wolf and the two are within ten points of breaking into sixth in the standings.
Tireballs-backed Patrick McGuire continues to hold the XC2 Pro Am points lead over DeRising Racing’s Braden Henthorn and Waynesburg Yamaha’s Gabe Phillips. Greg’s ATV & Cycle’s Matt Hanna isn’t far behind Phillips for fourth and DeRisi Racing’s Eric Hoyland rounds out the top five, only one point behind Hanna.
