Ten victories. That is how many wins Rob MacCachren has this season alone. While some off-road race careers have come and gone with less success than this, it is just a single season for the ROCKSTAR Energy Drink / Makita Tools’ driver. Those ten victories give Rob Mac an astounding 199 total career victories coming in to this weekend’s Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) event at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, California. The venue is fitting for MacCachren to reach this unrivaled milestone in off-road motorsports. “Last season I broke my left collar bone racing at Glen Helen,” MacCachren recalls. “Instead of bagging the season though I put my MasterCraft race suit back on and drove through the pain.” Rob Mac went on to win the San Felipe Challenge of Champions and two more Lucas races, finishing second in series points in both the SCORE International desert race series and LOORRS short course racing.
MacCachren has piloted his ROCKSTAR Energy Drink / Makita Power Tools / BFGoodrich Tires / TRAXXAS truck to three victories in LOORRS this season; more than any other driver in the premier Pro2 Unlimited class. He has accumulated another four victories in the TRAXXAS TORC short course series as well, including back to back victories at the recent Chicagoland races in front of packed grandstands and he even held off the powerful Pro 4’s to claim the victory at Crandon’s prestigious Chairman’s Cup Challenge Race in June. Rob MacCachren’s skills aren’t limited to short course though, the Las Vegas native brings his never-give-up attitude to the desert as well. This year he has wheeled the No. 20 Jimco-built Trophy Truck to victories in SCORE International’s Laughlin Desert Challenge and the MasterCraft Safety Tecate San Felipe 250, which he won for the second year in a row. In Best in the Desert, Rob won the iconic Mint 400 and came in second at the Silver State 300 by a mere 14 seconds (both with Steve Sourapas as driver of record).
So what do Rob Mac’s sponsor representatives, many of whom have become close friends over the years, think of this weekend’s potential accomplishment? Mike Kelso, Marketing Director for ROCKSTAR Energy Drink summed it up perfectly. “ROCKSTAR Energy Drink is truly honored to be associated with Rob MacCachren and his racing efforts. Not only is Rob a legend and a world class driver, he is a friend, a standup guy, and a dedicated family man that somehow keeps everything in balance with his overwhelming schedule. Rob is a vital part of our family and shows what it really means to be a ‘Rockstar.’ We would like to personally congratulate Rob and the entire team as they approach 200 victories and look forward to many more to come.”
Rob Mac’s loyalties to his sponsors have obviously paid off and have also equipped him with the tools to not only win, but also dominate the field. “I have been very fortunate to make a career of off-road racing,” MacCachren shares. “Manufacturers like BFGoodrich, Fox Racing Shox, Impact, and Patton Racing Engines have given me the tools I need to be successful.” Following the race at Glen Helen MacCachren has a packed schedule with races for five weekends in a row. Rob heads to Bark River for TORC action on August 11-12, then BITD’s Vegas to Reno on August 16-18, followed by LOORRS racing in Reno on August 25-26, and then to the legendary Crandon Raceway on Labor Day weekend.
If you are in Southern California this weekend you won’t want to miss the opportunity to witness history being made at Glen Helen. Remember to come by the ROCKSTAR Energy Drink / Makita Power Tools team pits to get Rob’s autograph, buy a t-shirt, or just get a cold ROCKSTAR Energy Drink from one of the beautiful ROCKSTAR girls. After the racing is over on Sunday there is even the possibility of taking home fiberglass from Rob’s ROCKSTAR Energy / Makita Power Tools / BFGoodrich Tires truck!
