Corona, CA – Husqvarna’s Cory Graffunder rolled into Central, Utah only a few points out of the lead in the Pro 2 class of the World Off Road Championship Series (WORCS), and was able to take a valuable step forward in the championship by taking the win on the technical Utah course. Meanwhile, on the East Coast, FAR Husqvarna’s Andrew DeLong ended his day on the podium, as well, taking second in the XC2 class at the Snowshoe GNCC.
Cory Graffunder knew that the win was mandatory to keep his Pro 2 championship hunt alive in the WORCS series. Recovering from a mid-pack start, which included taking a row of banners for a joyride, Cory pushed his TXC511 to the front of the Pro 2 class (and 6th overall position) midway through lap two, and never looked back.
“This was a fun course,” Cory said. “It was really rough and wet. I think we crossed that creek about six times each lap! The water was awesome, and the terrain suited my style. The win here is great, and I’m looking forward to the last three rounds.”
With three rounds remaining, Cory now sits just five points out of the lead in Pro 2 with a good shot at taking his first WORCS title.
Cory Graffunder returns to racing this weekend, LIVE on ESPN2, in the Summer X Games Enduro X event! Check your local listing for show times and details.
On the East Coast, the FAR Husqvarna team was in full race mode at the Snowshoe GNCC in Snowshoe, West Virginia. Andrew DeLong and his TC250 were on fire, yet again. The XC2-class whiz was in the hunt for another class win and overall podium, but while leading the XC2 charge and running third overall, DeLong made a mistake on an uphill just outside of the pits. The hang-up cost him the lead and dropped him back by 30 seconds. Ultimately, Andrew crossed the finish line second in the XC2 class, just shy of the leader and physically fifth overall.
“I couldn’t get rolling today,” Andrew explained. “I started well, but my bike setup was just off a little. With so many rocks on the course I just tried to give it my all; unfortunately it wasn’t enough and I had to settle for second. But for the next rocky round I know what we need to change on the bike.”
With just five rounds remaining, DeLong has moved to within two points of third overall, despite missing the first two events of the series. The FAR Husqvarna team returns to racing Sunday, July 8 in Millville, Ohio for the next round of the series.
DeLong’s FAR Husqvarna teammate Nick Davis suffered a DNF after running into some bad luck on the challenging Snowshoe course, but is looking forward to turning his luck around at the next round.
Country music star and friend of the FAR Husqvarna team, Craig Morgan, returned to racing his Husqvarna in Snowshoe. After a Saturday night concert for the fans at the event, Morgan was on the starting line the next morning, taking ninth in class when the checkered flag was thrown.
Upstate Cycle/Husqvarna support rider Vance Earl managed to get a win of his own on Sunday morning, taking the 50+ class win as well as the overall victory in the morning event aboard his TXC310.
