Round 8 mixed up the results board a bit as Chad Wienen dropped back to third in points, John Natalie tookover the lead and Josh Upperman advanced to within seven points from the leader. Rookie Chase Snapp finally captured his first-ever moto win in the AMA Pro class after putting in several top five finishes all season long. As one of the newest additions to the AMA Pro class, Snapp is acclimating himself to the Premier class very quickly this year.
UnadillaValley Sports Center is a premier racetrack in the northeast, home to both the AMA Pro Motocross and the AMA Pro ATV racing as well as the Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series and several other Amateur motocross events.
After taking a win in the last round, Baldwin Motorsports Honda’s Josh Upperman sits only seven points behind Motoworks Can-Am’s John Natalie for the points lead, the closest Upperman has been all year. However, Natalie is bouncing back from a broken arm, giving him a bit of a disadvantage heading into Unadilla this weekend. Upperman
Florida’s Jeremy Lawson has been a force to reckon with all season long, often setting the fastest lap times in the race; however, the Walsh Race Craft Suzuki rider hasn’t been consistent enough. Lawson is always a top contender for the overall win, especially at Unadilla this weekend.
Amateur classes will practice on Friday and race on both Saturday and Sunday. Pros will run two timed practice sessions on Saturday morning and race in the afternoon as part of a full schedule of amateur racing, including classes for Youth, Women and Veteran riders. Local riders are encouraged to take part in the amateur racing schedule and may sign up at the event.
Tickets on Saturday are $20 for spectators ($10 for ages 6-11), and admission includes full pro-pit access and an autograph session.
To get to the track, NYS Thruway to exit #31 (Utica, NY), follow signs for Route #8 SOUTH I-88 east, Exit 9 (Sidney, NY); Turn LEFT on Hwy 8 North; 30 minutes to track.
