Morgantown, W. Va. (May 3, 2011) – After the first two rounds of the AMA ATV Motocross National Championship Series presented by DWT, it appeared that Motoworks Can-Am rider Chad Wienen had it all figured out as he led the rest of the field by nearly 20 points. After struggling with bad luck in the mud last round, Wienen now sits seventeen points behind John Natalie for the first place points position heading to his home track at Sunset Ridge MX this weekend.
The ITP Sunset Ridge event is the fifth stop on the eleven round ATVMX tour. A mixture of sand and loamy dirt, Sunset Ridge provides a fast-paced track with plenty of opportunity to roughen up.
Walsh Race Crafts Suzuki rider Jeremy Lawson is coming off a season-best second place finish at Budds Creek, looking to capture a win this weekend. Being from Florida, Lawson is looking to use the sandy course to his advantage. Ballance Racing’s Thomas Brown will be back in full swing this weekend after experiencing mechanical issues in the first few rounds. Brown currently sits in tenth overall in points, not reflecting the hard work the Yamaha rider has been putting in both on and off the track this season.
Wisconsin’s Nick DeNoble captured his first podium of the season in round four as he endured the muddy track conditions at Budds Creek. The Janssen Motorsports-backed DeNoble currently sits in sixth place overall, looking to put his Honda inside the top five this weekend at his home track.
John Natalie, Chad Wienen and Thomas Brown will be at the Moto Armory this Thursday, May 5, from 5-7 p.m. The riders will be signing autographs and displaying their race machines at the American MX history museum, located five miles east of Colona, Ill. Event tickets and other merchandise will be raffled off at this event. For more information on the Moto Armory Museum, please visit http://moto-armory.com/.
Amateur classes will practice on Friday and race on both Saturday and Sunday. Pros will run two timed practice sessions on Saturday morning and race in the afternoon as part of a full schedule of amateur racing, including classes for Youth, Women and Veteran riders. Local riders are encouraged to take part in the amateur racing schedule and may sign up at the event.
Tickets on Saturday are $20 for spectators ($10 for ages 6-11), and admission includes full pro-pit access and an autograph session.
