Twin Air ATV Powerflow Intake Kit - Project QuadSport Z400 ATV - Off-Road.com

May. 01, 2004 By Dean Waters
We were preparing Project Z400 for it's next desert race. We were expecting significant silt and wanted to make sure we had a good air filter and one that would be easy to replace during a pit stop. Twin air has recently released their line of ATV Powerflow kits which use a new cage system that seals to the air box to eliminate leaks and can still be removed easily. We do NOT want dirt in our motor as reliability is extremely important for long desert races. The dual stage filters are designed with a course outer layer with an open pore to catch airborn dirt and sand. Then the fused inner foam layer is fine and is designed to trap very small particles while still allowing maximum air flow. We ordered the Suzuki / KFX 400 Power Flow Kit and an extra filter for our Project Z400.
Installation
The stock filter in need of a cleaning.
The air box on the Z400 needs to be removed so that the cage kit can be installed.

We used the mounting adaptor as a template to mark the wholes on the outside of the air box.
The air box with the three holes drilled.

The Twin Air filter cage adaptor bolted to the inside of the air box. The bolts were just barely long enough and could have been just slighlty longer. We applied lock tite to make sure they stayed in place.
We slip the new air filter over the cage.

The Twin Air filter completely installed over the cage and ready for install.
This T-nut tightens the cage and filter into place to eliminate all leaks.

Twin Air Equipped and ready for battle.

Summary

The Twin Air kit is a definete improvement over stock. We like the new mounting system and after just returning from the Terrible's Town 250 we can say we are very happy with it's perfomance and did not find any problems with our new intake kit from Twin Air. The price is a little steep at $124.95 but how much does a new motor cost? We will soon be testing the Twin Air air box cover which fits over the mounting ring and keeps dirt and water out of the carb while washing the air box.
