2005 Maxxis Pro Quad ATV Racing: Round 6

El Cajon, California

Jun. 28, 2005 By Brittany Bloodworth

The Maxxis QuadCross Round 6 was held at El Cajon Speed way in El Cajon, California. This is only the second time we have had a race here, so everyone was still trying to figure out the track. It basically consists of two big jumps, a step-up and the finish line jump. There are a few small doubles and tables on the track as well.

The weather was perfect and everyone was excited to finally have a night race again, since it has been two months since the last one here. Before practice there was a quick riders meeting and then it was off to go check out the track. Most people really enjoyed the lay out of the track, and said the enjoyed “Racing under the lights”.

Seven pros showed up to battle for the title. Dustin Nelson who is leading the pro class with 120 points had won every round, except the first one when his head pipe broke in the first moto. Jimmy Robinson is currently in the second place position with 103 points. Robinson has been very consistent throughout the series. Levi Marana in running in the third place position with 78 points. Marana has missed some races because of Desert Racing, but is still running in the top.

Pro Moto one

Dustin Nelson, number 94, grabbed the hole shot for the first moto, with Jeremy Schell, number 14, right behind. Jimmy Robinson was running in third. Doug Eichner, number 1, was running in the fourth position. Dustin Nelson and Jeremy Schell were side by side for the first couple laps as they battled it out trying to see who could take home the win. Eichner made the pass around Robinson and was trying to catch up to the top two riders. Dustin Nelson, still running in the first place position was giving Jeremy “The Hick” Schell a tough battle. Nelson went on to win the first moto with Jeremy Schell taking second. Doug Eichner rounded out the top three for the first moto.

Pro Moto two

Dustin Nelson was out front again off the start. Schell following and Cyle Chislock was running in third. Chislock crashed in the first moto so he was hoping he could do better second moto. Unfortunately he didn’t even make it two laps and he had to pull off. Jimmy Robinson was now running in the third place position, but Eichner was right behind him and knew that he had to make the pass in order to take third place for the day. A few laps later he was able to do just that. He made the pass on number 29 Jimmy Robinson. Dustin Nelson walked away with the win for the second moto and Jeremy Schell took second. Doug Eichner rounded out the top three for the night.

Dustin Nelson, sponsored by SRF, grabbed the overall for the day with a 1-1 finish and extended his series lead over Robinson by another seven points. Jeremy Schell, riding for Golden West Cycles, took an overall second with a 2 - 2 finish. Doug Eichner, riding for Duncan, finished with a 3 -3 finish to get the overall third place for the day.

4 Stroke A Class

Dustin Terry, number 22, took the win for the first moto, with Chris Riley taking second. Nick Hengtgen and Dennis Capogni, number 8, were battling when Capogni cased the triple the some of the pros weren’t even doing and went over the bars. Handing the third place position to Hengtgen.

Dustin Terry grabbed the hole shot for the second moto with Nick Hengtgen in second and Dennis Capogni in third. Nick Hengtgen has some batter problems and had to pull of the track. Which put Capogni in second. Chris Riley, number 4, and Keith Taylor, number 85, tangled together over the step-up taking them both out of the race. Both riders went end over end, but luckily the both walked away and were able to finish the race. Just a lot of damage to the quads. Dustin Terry went on to win the second moto with Dennis Capogni taking second.

Dustin Terry, who is also winning the series, took the overall for the day for the 4-Stroke A class. Chris Riley had a good enough first moto to still take second overall for the day. Dennis Capogni took third overall for the day.

Women’s Class

First moto of the women’s class holeshot went to Addrienne Cooper, number 14, with Brittany Bloodworth, number 23, following in second. Melissa Slade had some problems and had to take it easy the first moto. Christy McGuffin, number 90, was running in third. Cooper went on to win the first moto with Bloodworth taking second and McGuffin taking third.

Second moto holeshot went to Christy McGuffin, while Bloodworth was stuck in the gate. By the end of the first lap Cooper was out front and Bloodworth had made her pass on Slade, and McGuffin. Bloodworth was trying to make her way around Cooper and only found one spot on the track where she knew she could do it - the Step-up in the middle of the track. Bloodworth made the pass as she did the jump, but had some bad luck a couple corners later. She threw the chain and cracked the case. Addrienne took the overall for the day and extended her lead by 11 points over Bloodworth who took a fourth for the day. Melissa Slade took second overall for the day and McGuffin took third.

Thanks to all of the sponsors who help support this series. Without you guys it would not be possible to have such a great traveling series in SoCal.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the next round July 16th, at Race Town in Adelanto, California.

Good job to everyone who raced this round, and good luck at the next round.

We also wanted to let everyone know that round 8 of the Maxxis QuadCross series had been moved to August 13th at El Cajon Race Way. For information about this series or for current race results, please visit www.quadracing.org
