2005 Maxxis Pro Quad ATV Racing, Round 11

Racetown 395

Nov. 12, 2005 By Brittany Bloodworth

The Maxxis Thunder in the Valley Quad Cross series, was back in action this past weekend, at Race Town 395. For all of those who attended this race, round eleven, it was a double points round, which made things more interesting, and helped out some of the riders. Another addition to the track, was the addition of a few jumps. They added three doubles into the track, along with the addition of a triple, which all of the riders were doubling into, except for one rider in the novice class who tripled it, but he didn’t do it until after the races. They also extended the 80 foot table top another 10 feet. This track, gradually changes every race, which makes it more exciting for the riders who come back for every round. Also every time out here they set it up for quads, which makes it really nice.

4-Stroke A

There where five riders signed up for the 4 - stroke A class. The five riders that showed up, where also the top five running in the series. They all knew that they needed to be there because of the double

points. Dustin Terry was currently leading the series with 207 points was not too far in front of Nick Hengtgen who had 197 points. Chris Riley was running in the third place with 193 point and Dennis Capogni was in third 163 points. Keith Taylor rounded out the top five with 157 points.

Moto 1 - Off the line, Keith Taylor, number 85, had the jump off the gate, but by the first corner Dustin Terry, number 22, and Taylor went in side by side. As they made the corner, Terry came out about half of a quad link in front of Taylor as the drag raced down the back straight away. Taking the first place position after the next corner. Terry was in first with Taylor in second, Riley in third, and Capogni in fourth. By the third lap Terry was putting some distance between himself and the second place position which was still Keith Taylor, number 85.

However there was a change in the third place positions. Dennis Capogni, number 8 had maneuvered his way around the number 04 rider, Chris Riley, to take over the third place. Chris Riley was still running in fourth, with Nick Hengtgen in the fifth place position. As the white flag came out terry had about a twenty second lead on the pack. And Capogni was closing the gap between himself and Taylor as he was pushing Taylor around the corners. We where all wondering if Taylor would be able to hold onto the second place position for another lap. As they went around the far corner, Capogni made his move and was able to pass Taylor. Dustin Terry went on to take the win with Capogni taking second, and Keith Taylor taking third. Chris Riley took the fourth place position and Nick Hengten rounded out the top five for the first moto.

Moto 2 - It was Dustin Terry off the line for the second moto who grabbed the holeshot. Nick Hengeten got himself together between the motos and was running in the second place position. Chris Riley was running in the third place position and Keith Taylor was running in the fourth spot, with Dennis Capogni in the fifth spot. The also had the novice class running on the same gate and Dean Pierce was winning his class and trying to make the pass on Taylor as he was riding right behind him. Dustin Terry was walking away from the pack in the second moto as well. We all plan on seeing him running in the higher classes next year, and are really looking forward to it. Nick Hengtgen was running in the second place position and Chris Riley was still running in the third place. Dean Pierce made his way around Taylor on the table top, almost causing Taylor to go down. As they came up to the next jump Pierce slowed down a little bit, so Taylor did as well. Dennis Capogni didn’t realize that they slow down as he stayed on full throttle for the jump, landing on Taylor on the downside of the jump. Capogni was quick to get back on his feet and started to try to get the bikes apart, unfortunately Taylor was not getting up.

As everyone rushed over there Taylor was still laying in the middle of the track. They pulled the red flag out and stopped the race. We where happy to know that Keith Taylor was ok and all the hurt was his tail-bone. When he found out that they had red flagged the race he simply said “Where’s my helmet” which made it clear that Taylor was fine as he rode back to the starting line. They lined the racers up in the order that they where in when the red flagged the race, and told them that they where going to do a two-lap heat. Dustin Terry was out front and was able o take the win for the second moto. Nick Hengetgen was able to hold on to the second place position and Chris Riley took the third place for the second moto. Dennis Capogni took the fourth place, and Keith Taylor, who was riding like he had just crashed, took fifth.

Dustin Terry grabbed the win for the overall for the day with a 1-1 finish and would extend his lead another six point for the series. Dennis Capogni was still able to grab a second overall for the day with a 2-4 finish, and Nick Hengtgen grabbed the overall third place for the day with a 5-2 finish. Taylor took the fifth place for the day with a 3-5 finish, but we where all sure he was just glad he got to finish the race.

Open C - There are three different groups for the open c class, because they had so many entries at each round, and it is just much safer this way.

Group A - Steve Leibert , number 57, grabbed the overall win for the day for the A group with a 1 -1 finish. Dewayne Lounsbury, number 24, took second place for the day with a 2- 3 finish and his brother Brent , number 54, took the overall third for the day with a 4-2 finish.

Group B - Scott Cahill, number 14, took the first place for the day in the B Group with a 1-1 finish, and Keith Tebeau, number 7W, took the second overall for the day with a 2-2 finish. Matt Kelich, number 47, rounded out the top three with a 4-3 finish for the day to take home the third place position.

Group C - The was the largest C Group for the day with 8 riders signed up to race. Cody Daniels, number 11, took home the first place position with a 1-1 finish. Number 23, Brittany Bloodworth who has been riding with he guys for the last couple rounds, took home the second place position with a 2-3 finish. And Gordie Carlos took home the third place position for the day with a 3-4 finish.

Plus 30

Rodger Marks took home the overall for the weekend in the plus 30 class with a 1-1 finish. Robert Kelich took home the second place position with a 3-2 finish, and Roy Bloodworth took home the third place position with a 2-3 finish. As I was listening to the guys on the line, this is probably one of the best groups of guys out at the track. They where all trying to talk Jason into giving them a Twenty Minute NAP halfway through the race. They all get a long very well, and its great to see them being able to joke about how old they are.

Womens

Brittany Bloodworth took home the overall win for the day with a 1 -1 finish. Addrienne Cooper took home the second place position with a 2-2 finish, and Christy McGuffin rounded out the top three for the day who, as well as Bloodworth, ran two classes today. McGuffin also took the first place position in the Blasters Class as well.

We Look forward to seeing everyone at the last round of the MAXXIS QuadCross series December 10th. Remember they are having food catered in, Lunch tickets are $5 dollars each, so come out, eat, and enjoy the awards ceremony.
