Kawasaki Teryx4 Gets New Engine, Fox Shocks for 2014

Jul. 12, 2013 By Josh Burns

Only a few years into its existence, Kawasaki has decided to make some major updates to its four-passenger Teryx4 for 2014 that include engine updates and upgraded suspension. The moves will certainly keep the Teryx4 competitive with the increasingly popular four-passenger side-by-side market.

For 2014, Kawasaki engineers wanted to provide more horsepower for its four-seater Teryx4, so the previous 749cc V-twin engine was swapped out in favor of a new 783cc 90-degree V-twin. The single-overhead-cam engine features four valves per cylinder, while fuel injection is optimized with a digital fuel injection system. Kawasaki says the new V-twin will provide 10 percent more torque and 8 percent more power for tackling off-road terrain. Kawasaki says the power increase is most noticeable in the low-end and midrange.

New Fox Podium shocks are fitted to the 2014 Teryx4.

In spite of the increase in power, Kawasaki engineers managed to actually improve upon the fuel economy of the vehicle. The Kawasaki Heavy Industries website notes there’s a 20 percent improvement in fuel economy with the new engine, as the 2013 model had a 13.1 mpg fuel consumption rating and the 2014 model is improved to 15.7 mpg.

Burnt Orange is one of the colors available on the LE version of the 2014 Teryx4.

Kawasaki also introduced new Fox shocks on the 2014 Teryx4. Paired with Kawasaki’s Electronic Power Steering system, the new Fox Podium shocks on the 2014 Teryx4 help provide sportier handling for the four-seater. The gas-charged piggyback reservoir shocks provide 8 inches of travel in the front and 8.3 inches of travel to the independent rear suspension. Another huge selling point is the adjustability of the shocks, as they are adjustable with 24-way compression damping for different conditions or whether riding with four occupants or two.

Room for four: with form-fitting, high-back bucket seats and retractable three-point seatbelts provide a safe and comfortable ride for all passengers.

Depending upon the trim level selected, Kawasaki offers a number of different colors for 2014 for the Teryx4. The standard trim is available in Super Black or Sunrise Yellow, and it will carry an MSRP of $15,799. The LE version will come equipped with new LED headlights and a sun top for 2014, and the upgraded model is equipped with additional features over the standard model that include aluminum wheels, three-tone bucket seat covers and shock and suspension color-matched components. The LE version, available in Lime Green or Candy Burnt Orange, will have an MSRP of $16,999. Kawasaki will also offer a Camo version of the Teryx4, which has an MSRP of $16,299.

A camouflage Teryx4 will be available in 2014.
