Kasea brought their 2004 models up a notch, improving suspension and changing the Skyhawk 250's appearance. This year instead of resembling the Honda 400EX, it now resembles the Suzuki LT Z400. The Skyhawk retains the same two-cylinder 4-stroke motor.
Among the models introduced is their new Explorer Buggy, which is the only ATK (All Terrain Kart) in mass production that offers all the features of an expensive Sand Rail, at half the cost. The Explorer comes standard with all-wheel disc brakes, a water-cooled 250cc four- stroke power plant, a very aggressive dual double A-arm suspension, both FRONT and REAR, a 4-point seatbelt, two Quartz headlights and an automatic transmission with reverse. It kind of brings me flashbacks of the old Honda Pilot, just lacking the 400CC two-stoke motor. It was a lot of fun, though a little down on power, and might be a little disappointing in the dunes. The suspension was great. I found myself jumping it pretty hard, until I had to give it up to another editor, who, on his short trip found that the welds on the foot brake lever had broken, causing a short and eventful trip. On Kasea's behalf, it was only a prototype and the production model promises to be better.
If you are a serious sand nut and have a little time on your hands, this little buggy would really kick some sand with a 650cc Rotax motor.
On the flip side, I think that the new Mini Skyhawk 50 would be just the thing for my little 2 & 5-year-old nephews to speed around with "dad" on the farm. A big improvement over their tame electric Power Wheels plastic-ATV.
