Jet-Hot Protective Exhaust System Coatings
Keeping Your Pipes Looking Hot
Whether you happen to be into building sparkling, show quality quads or just want to keep your machine looking new as long as possible, chances are one of your tougher challenges is keeping your exhaust pipe looking pretty. Fact of the matter is, most manufacturers are unwilling to spend money on stainless steel or chrome, and usually offer their exhaust systems with either a light coat of flat black paint or bare steel with just enough chromium in it to keep it from rusting in humid weather. After a few rides through mud, ocean water, and other nasties even if the rest of your quad looks great, the exhaust system is probably looking pretty frightful.
Enter Jet-Hot Coatings. Originally formulated for aerospace, marine, and real high temperature applications, this heavy duty "paint" coating has found a niche with exhaust systems. Not only does the coating last virtually forever (over 10x longer corrosion resistance than chrome), but also has real, functional advantages.
For one, the coating is much more than a paint- it's more of a heavy powder coating, and as such, effectively acts as a heat insulator. This keeps the exhaust gas hot, and everything outside the pipe cooler (like pant legs, body work, etc). But if that wasn't good enough, there's actually a performance benefit to the Jet-Hot coating. By keeping the exhaust gases from cooling they maintain their inertia or velocity, which means better cylinder scavenging (improved breathing).
The coating is applied through a multi-step process which includes thermal degreasing, aluminum-oxide blasting, coating the pipe inside and out, and high temperature curing. The 'Sterling' finish is the next best thing to chrome- nearly as brilliant, much more durable, and far less expensive. The result is a beautiful piece befitting custom machine and weekend warrior alike.
