Photos by HighRev Photography The 2007 SCORE Baja 500 is now in the history books . There was a record number of entries and the ATV and UTV classes were no different. There was 16 entries in the Class 25 Pro ATV class, 15 entries in the Class 24 Pro ATV class, 22 entries in the sportsman ATV class and 9 entries in the UTV.
Successfully defending their overall ATV and Class 25 victory was the team of Danny Prather, Mike Cafro, Levi Marana, and Marc Spaeth on the No. 1a Honda TRX450R. The Temecula Motorsports team completed it the 500 mile course in 10:09:07 with an average speed of 41.79. The 1a team remained unbeaten for two races as well as having two SCORE wins last year on the way to their first SCORE season point championship. It was Mike Cafro’s fifth career win in this race. At the finish line Danny Prather said: "Awesome race, man – had a great ride, everybody did their rides perfect. I rode from Ojos to Valley de Trinidad and then Dana Creet rode to San Telmo and then Dave took it there from San Telmo all the way over to San Vicente and then brought it back to me and I rode it on in. (Compared to prior years) this was a very tough course, high speed, very technical and also very silty. No problems all day with vehicles - had to change a couple rear tires – otherwise a flawless race." Second in Pro ATV was the 3a of Wayne Matlock and Chad Prull. Wayne and Chad covered the course in 10 hrs 24 minutes and 26 seconds.
At the finish line Wayne Matlock said: "Well, we had a 10 minute lead and my rider went off the cliff at Erendira and broke his leg. The course was really, really rough."
In Class 24 Pro ATV there was a whopping 15 entries. This class has grown by huge amounts since SCORE opened it up to 450 4-stroke machines rather than limiting it to under 251 cc 2-stroke. 1st in class was Adolfo Arellano, Christian Valles, Alfonso Cota, and Guillermo Cota. They covered the course in 10 hrs 44 minutes and 57 seconds with an average speed of 39.47 mph on their Honda TRX450R. In fact this time was good enough to give them third overall ATV. In sportsman ATV the win went to David Corbani and Stefano Caputo on their Honda TRX450R. David and Stefano covered the course in 11 hrs 28 minutes with an average speed of 37 mph. This was good enough to give them 4th overall in ATV. That is a pretty amazing accomplishment for for a sportsman competitor. Full ResultsPRO ATVs OVERALL SPT ATV-- 1.
