I had been wearing
Alpinestar boots for quite some time but I was due
for some new ones, when Alpinestar released their
new Tech 6. I was looking for a good race boot as
opposed to some of the available ATV boots with a walking sole.
Those boots are great for casual trail riding and even a little
hike, but I needed a new boot specifically for racing.

Alpinestar Tech 6 boots ready
for their first ride. This is the silver version.

The features of the Tech 6 fit
the bill. The new Tech 6 is an all-in-one boot as compared to the
Tech 8 and the brand new Tech 10, which have the removable bootie.
I am not a big fan of the bootie. KISS.
The Tech 6 has lots of protection built-in the
boot. It features a contoured shin plate, extended inside plate to
guard the toe area, a new wider calf protector plate, injected heel
and ankle protector guards, a stamped steel sole protector, a thick
wide suede inside leg protector, and a liner with patented ankle
brace protector.
And with all that protection, the boot is still
very comfortable. A couple rides and the boots were broken in. It
did take a few more rides to get the buckles adjusted properly. The
4-buckle system on the Tech 6 works very well but does take some
adjustment at break-in time. The first few times I rode I had
several of the buckles pop loose. I adjusted them a little each
time as the boot broke-in, and since have never had to re-adjust
them or had a buckle come loose.
The Tech 6 has an extended gaiter for extra
water protection and I found it to work very well. The only time I
found the boot full of water was when trying to wash them off with
the hose after a muddy ride.
List price for the new Tech 6 is $259.95, but I
have seen them much lower. The price is very good for a high
quality boot with this type of protection and this comfort.
We picked the silver version of the Tech 6 - you
can also get them in black, white, red and blue.
Summary
I have experienced several get-offs while
wearing these boots and the Tech 6 provided incredible protection.
Honestly, despite me not taking very good care of an expensive pair
of boots, they seem to be holding up very well and should last for
a long time to come.
