Master of Ceremonies

Well it seems I have missed something this year. Like maybe it went by a little to fast but I guess the older I get that seems to be how everything goes. I would be lying if I said I was glad to see this season go. I truly love the sport and I cannot wait to get up near the starting line in Deleon Springs Florida in march next year. Getting to see everyone at the Gncc ATV banquet was a little taste to pacify me until next season.

Top Guns

The Banquet was held at the Lakeview resort just outside Morgantown West Virginia and man was it a big one. The evening got started for me around 4:00 o’clock. As I entered the banquet hall I noticed some very familiar faces. Rita and Carry Jo of Racer Productions were hard at work sorting out all the contingency prizes. Each and every rider who placed in the years overall championships would get a pile of great items from Gear bags to gloves and the top riders would receive Maxxis tires for their efforts throughout the year. With all the action in the banquet dining area I couldn’t help but peek out from time to time and watch all my fellow riders rackin up.

6 more Diamonds!

As each rider and their families stood in line to be seated each signed up for the many sets of tire balls which Wade Summers himself give out. Wade is the inventor of the famous Tire Ball and has even developed his own tire ball pump to get the correct pressure in the tire balls every time. From here it was off to the banquet hall.

GNCC's Heavenly Hotline

Joey Holloway asked the blessing over our meal and everyone waited patiently to be called out to the hallway for the wonderful meal Racer Productions had presented. The food was absolutely fabulous. I couldn’t get caught up in that though because I had to talk to everyone about any plans for next year. There will be many changes in the Gncc family as Brandon Balance announced that Yamaha will be supporting him along side his brother. Then came the bomb of the Four Stroke Tech Team. It seems Mickey Dunlap has been overwhelmed with the long days and endless nights of having his own race team. Mickey will not field a race program for 2006 and many of the 2005 FST Riders are already making plans for next year. Chris jenks wouldn’t say what was in store for him in 2006 but assured the crowd of curious riders that he would be at Deleon Springs florida with bells on. Chris as you remember had made 2005 his best season in Grand National Cross Country racing. Chris along with all the other FST guys will land on their feet im sure.

Rising Star

So here we are at the dinner and John Ayers is our Master of Ceremonies. John began the evening with our series sponsor recognition. First up was Gear Manufacturer Moose Racing. Brian Webber was on hand to thank everyone for the loyalty to moose during the season. Then on with Maxxis tires and the list went on and on. Thanking the people that make the series possibly is very important to the GNCC racing family. And around 7:pm it was time for the class presentations.

Scott's Championship Tee

Throughout the evening there were awards between the awards. Racer Productions handed out some recognition like the “Hard Luck” and the “Good Samaritan” each one had been decided by the nominations on the banquet entry form.

As everyone settled in for the long evening I just had to see again what was going on out in the banquet hallway. I found Mike Penland standing behind a table selling T’s for his friend and teammate Scott Kilby. Scott was seriously injured at the final round of our series and has gained a tremendous amount of medical expenses that seem to be growing daily. Scott also found out that he will be undergoing surgery Thursday after the banquet to temporarily attach his broken collar bone together while it heals. This will take two plates and several screws to bind it together for the healing to begin again. Stay tuned for an in depth article on the Championship T’s and Scotts Condition.

World's Fastest Women

Utility Stock class started the evening off with Ken Robey Getting his first championship trophy. Mike Penland was glad to take second and determined to come back next year for the number one again. Scott kilby had already wrapped up his championship plaque before the Ironman and utility mod would see a very excited Kevin Johnston walk away with his first championship. Of course we all know that Traci Cecco took home the gold in the womens class but Stephanie Parton vowed to be back in

There's always next year

action and looking to return the title to her trophy case next year. Bill ballance accepted his second diamond ring( 6 total diamonds ) for his amazing second half comeback and hard charging sixth championship. Will Bill tie Barry Hawk with seven titles in the Pro class? Not if Chris Borich has anything to do with it. A determined Borich came away from the stage with determination and at least for this year a second place trophy in our pro class. With many awards being given out the Pro Am class had a very excited class champ. Adam McGill came onto the stage with a lot of smiles and even hammed it up for the crowd of photographers. McGill also let Bill Balance and all the other Pro’s that he would be there on the Front line next season and the “wang pow” winners would be in danger. All I can say is that by his performance this season the industry should keep an eye on this guy because next year there will not be a one minute deficit between him and the front runners.

Mike helping out a friend

So class by class every one received what they had worked so hard all year long for and many made their way out to the dancing hall for a night filled with great fun. I had to get to my room and think about what had just happened. I really was thankful to all the people who had purchased a Scott Kilby Championship tee shirt. And I was also impressed by the willingness of Mike Penland to sit out in the lobby and make it happen. That is truly the “Teammate” spirit everyone should have. Bombardier must be proud to have a great group of guys like Team PBR on board.

Thanks for everything, Jack

Well I have had a great time at the races and I hope next year you can come out and join us there and if you want I’ll show you around. The series will definitely become larger as time goes on so if you have a quad and want to have a ball please get a list of the 2006 seasons races and plan to attend at least one. Keep an eye on Offroad.com during the winter for series updates and interview’s as I will do my best to keep’em coming. Check out the class champions at the bottom before you go.

Please join me with America’s series the Grand National Cross Country Series.
