Shannon Campbell captures
win over Bundrant at Jellico
|
Jellico, Tennessee - Shannon Campbell roared up the last obstacle, Robert's Revenge, with his LS1 400 horsepower rock buggy like it was nothing. After a long technical crawl through the the first 3/4's of the obstacle, Campbell use all the horsies in that motor and launched up the face as if it was a Sunday drive on his home town rocks of Arizona. Campbell commented at the top as he took his helmet off, "I love Tennessee!"
This win is the first for Campbell in the 2004 UROC Pro-National season. Although, he has had some top five finishes this year, this win comes especially at the right time as this is the fourth event of the season in a season so far dominated by Rock Runner Racing's Tracy Jordan and Jason Paule.

Nelson & Bundrant tie
for second place at -67
|
Jellico, Tennessee - Jon Nelson and Tom Geviss finished the day with a -67 and were parked, when Shannon Campbell and Jon Bundrant finished their dual in the woods of Tennessee. In the end it was Bundrant who Nelson had to dual with for second place. Both Nelson and Bundrant ended up with -67 and so it went to the tie-breaker that UROC had in place.
Bundrant claimed the better time on the tie-breaker and he captured second place. Working all day with Larry "King Full Pull" McRae, who was hampered by a injured left arm that was inside a cast, the dynamic rock crawling duo drove their rig, "Tiny" to second place in which is rumored to be their last competition in this rock crawling rig. King Full Pull had to work harder than normal because of his handicapped casted arm, but obviously it didn't slow him a whole lot as they battled for the win with Shannon Campbell in the last obstacle.
Nelson and Geviss were on fire most of the day, however a couple early miscues in the event put them behind the eight ball all day long playing catch up and taking calculated risks.
Rock Runner Racing's Jason Paule, Tracy Jordan and Don Robbins round out the top six competitors in that order. Paule finished with -60, Jordan with -59 and Robbins with -53.
Other notables were Jeff Mello, driving the Skyjacker sponsored rock buggy and Peter Wells, who both were on the verge of climbing into the top five early in the day but suffered on the rocks of Tennessee.

Update
|
Jellico, Tennessee - With the action well underway here, the race for the win is all about strategic driving. Tracy Jordan tackled an obstacle called The Chute with Jerry Watson completing a spotter ride. The Chute has an easy dirt uphill section, but the tricky part is the straight downhill 27 foot descent. Jordan, without any emotion, asked Jerry to buckle up in the car before they started the obstacle. Jordan approached the top of the descent and drove off the edge of the dirt cliff. Slowly, the BFGoodrich Krawlers rolled down the steep face, the duo, looking straight down out of the front of the buggy, sat poised without emotion and conquered the obstacle after coming to a stop at the bottom of the steep hill of dirt. Jordan scored a -10 on The Chute.

Chris Durham put his
rock buggy on the side, broke up the front hood, but raged hard in
the rocks and was able to get himself back on all four wheels and
completed the obstacle called "Hardcore." Durham put on a big show
for the fans here at Jellico receiving a standing ovation as he
exited the rock buggy with his arms hoisted high in the
air.

Update
|
Jellico, Tennessee - The town of Jellico, Tennessee has opened their arms wide in anticipation of the world's toughest rock crawlers, the UROC Pro-National Super Modified Division. Using a format similar to NASCAR, this rockcrawling weekend has hosted all the lower division classes leading up to today where only the UROC Pro-National Super Modified will compete. The rocks and dirt of Jellico's Cumberland Mountains has been churned up after two full days of competition and the toughest obstacles are now even more ugly.
|
The majority of UROC Pro-National Super Modified Division competitors have made the trip across the United States converging on this small community near the borders of Kentucky, North Carolina and Tennessee. The long trip across the United States has caused some carnage to a variety of teams including multiple blown trailer tires, blown turbos and some exploded injectors on some tuned up running diesels. However, the whose who of professional rockcrawling has made the trip and are staged in contingency preparing for the days' event.
UROC Pro-National Super Modified points leader, Tracy Jordan, and his teammate, Jason Paule, who is in second place in the points race, were the center spot of attention yesterday at the UROC competition event as Newsweek Magazine flew in a writer and photographers from New York City to produce a featured article Tracy Jordan. The photo shoot was staged in the middle of the competition area as the East Extreme Super Modified competed on obstacles and the photo shoot took place on an unused/closed obstacle. Jordan was poised for the interview and photoshoot, which will be the first of many to come, as professional rockcrawling debuts into America's mainstream media.
Tracy Jordan later told ORC staffers, "This interview was a great thing for professional rockcrawling and our team is fortunate to be in this position." Later, Jordan, and East Coast icon, Ken Shupe, jokingly commented about the competition here in Jellico. Shupe has been putting out hordes of smack talk on the various rock crawling Internet bulletin boards and rumor has it that Shupe's gonna' have to live up to all that smack talking today as the boys of the West Coast square off against the boys of the East Coast.
Johnny G Rock Racing
arrives to Jellico for the battle.

In other notes of interest, Team All Pro's Jon Bundrant is here in Jellico ready to compete after not attending the UROC Pro-National event in Vernal, Utah as well as the Cedar City, Utah event. His spotter, Larry "King Full Pull" McRae was injured at the Cedar City, Utah event where he drove the rockcrawler named, "Tiny." However, the nicest guy in rockcrawling is here with his arm in a cast ready to spot for what has been deemed their last rock crawling competition driving the rig called, "Tiny." Bundrant recently put the championship rockcrawling rig up for sale. UROC Pro-National competitors Jason Scherer and Jeff Mello have purchased "Tiny" and its been said they are taking it home to Northern California from here in Jellico, Tennessee. Without any formal or official statement from Team All Pro Racing or Bundrant, it appears that his professional rockcrawling career will end after this Jellico event. McRae did tell ORC staffers that he recently purchased the famed "Karnivore" rig that had been given away at the 2003 Supercrawl and he looks forward to being at events showing off the rig for BFGoodrich Motorsports. Many have speculated where McRae will end up, whether as a driver or spotter for the next championship team, but their is no doubt that King Full Pull will return to the winner's circle in the near future.
