It was only a two years ago that Chevrolet unveiled a redesigned Silverado 1500 pickup truck for 2014, but that isn’t stopping the company from offering a refreshed version of the pickup for the upcoming 2016 model year.
Riding its recent success, where Chevy claims its pickup sales are up 32 percent so far in 2015, Chevrolet has announced a refreshed version of the Silverado 1500 that includes a new front end and updated technology inside.
“The redesigned 2016 Silverado will build on Chevy Trucks’ legacy of dependability,” said Sandor Piszar, marketing director for Chevy Trucks. “It will feature a more muscular appearance and offer new customer-focused technologies.”
One of the biggest updates is to the front end of the 2016 Silverado 1500, which features more sculpted, bulging lines on the hood, LED lights in the bumper and additional LED strips under the headlamps, and a redesigned front grill.
Chevrolet also says it will include “expanded use” of the 8-speed automatic transmission. Although Chevy offers no details on the 8-speed, since it was only available on the 6.2-liter V8 we assume the expanded use means it will be available on the 5.3-liter V8 as well. Chevy also announced updates to its MyLink with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Updates to “additional safety technologies” were also announced, though no specific details were unveiled at this time.
Chevrolet says more product details on the redesigned 2016 Silverado 1500 will be available this fall near the public debut of the updated truck.
