(JPG 46K) Rob McGarty 's FJ40 This 1973 pretty baby blue monster is pretty much stock, 3 speed, straight six ... it has many nifty featuers, such as the air horn. if you look closely at the hood you will see the dual air horn. this is powered by an air tank built out of an old fire extinguisher filled by an air compressor under the hood. Nothing like letting out 200 decibles on demand!

(JPG 40K) Kerry Manning's 73 FJ55. I bought it for $1750.00 with 50,000 miles, a lot of rust and a couple gallons of standing water behind the wheel wells. Since than I have been restoring by fixing the rust holes, draining the water, and giving it a new coat of paint. In addition I have removed and sold the plow and all it's parts, changed all of the fluids, fixed the breaks, door locks, the rear power window, seat belts, and the electrical shorts, painted and carpeted the interior, installed a radio and new clutch master and slave cylinders and rewired the ignition system.

(JPG 46K) Here is a picture of my Land Cruiser FJ60 taken about 4 years ago in Laguna de Tacarigua in Venezuela. It was the only way to get across the river.... Right now it has 190.000 Kms, with it's stock engine. I try to keep my Toyota 100% Toyota. Except for the stereo..... I have always been a Toyota fan. I live in Caracas Venezuela, here there are countless places to visit and have great fun with your Toyota. This car gives me a special freedom that nothing else can quite match. Caracas has great off road places inside the city limits.... I first started with a FJ40 in 1984. When I went to college here we use to skip class and go up a moutain or a hard to reach beach.

Alvaro Rodriguez

(JPG 88K) Des Yee's FJ62 GXL Wagon of a 1989 vintage. It can be easily identified from the earlier FJ Series, by its distinctive twin rectangular High/Low headlight assembly. GXL model includes full electrics, air-conditioning and power steering. My Rig is mainly used on sealed roads, for every day travel to and from work. (approx 65Kms round trip). But to keep up the TLC tradition, every other possible time is spent in both discovered and un-discovered, bush, mud, rock, shale or other undesirable inhumane Australian tracks. Now for some details on the TLC hardware itself. It is outfitted with the original 3F carburettor Petrol donk, transfer and 5 speed gear box that has clocked up to near 230.000Kms and still runs like a rocket. (Oh what a feeling) Accessories include dual-fuel, placement of the 80 Ltr LPG tank is next to the modified 80 Ltr petrol tank. ARB bull bar, twin batteries, 31x10.50 Dunlop Adventurers tyres on 15x8" Cheviot chrome wheels for the sealed roads and an additional set of 31x10.50 BF Goodridge Mud Terrain tyres on 15x8" white Sunrasia wheels, (for the mud and hard off road work) all around Bilstein shock absorbers, reset rear springs, with a couple of heavy duty leaves added (1.5" lift), a Duncan Quadrant rear wheel carrier and a couple of Hella 181 driving lights front and rear. Gadgets include 477Mhz and 27Mhz radio gear and a mobile phone (invaluable in the past).

It is powered by an '81 267 Chev small block with Holley 4 bbl carb, Advance headers, 8000 lb Warn winch, 12.5*33 Hancook tires, S10 bucket seats, GMC power steering, and some Dominion Auto off-road lights.

(JPG 88K) Robert l. Meredith's 1960 FJ-25, one of 162 imported that year. It has been in Colorado all its life. I am the 2nd owner I think. It was in bad shape when I brought it home 9 years ago. I have rebuilt or replaced every component. Still has the ORIGINAL engine, completely overhauled of course. Which adverages 19 mpg ripping up the Co. mtn. roads. It is the F-135 engine. I replaced the original 4sp granny/single speed transfer case with a 75 4sp coupled to a 73 t/c. This is VERY soon to be replaced with a Muncie sm420 4sp coupled to the same t/c. The centered diff. rear axle was replaced with an offset diff axle of the 68-72 type at the same time the trannie was changed. Front axle is an early 60s. Front axle was changed because of bad camber angle and antique brakes on the original. Bucket seats out of a 75 Cruiser have replaced the original hard bench. A full roll cage has been added. Ramsey 8000# winch has been added since that picture was taken. A rear locker will be the next mod. as soon as I get the sm420 in. Original wheels were 16x4.5" (still on in the picture with 7.50x16 tires). Now have 31x10.50 tires on 15x8" wheels. This rig is my daily driver, it is VERY dependable.

(JPG 47K) Roy Balli's '76 TLC FJ40
The vehicle is a 1976 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40. It has the original 257.9 cu.in4spd trans, 4x4, 4:11 gears, front disc brakes, rear drums, no-lock hubs 31x10.5 Firestones, and a half-ass attempt of a camo job with normal rust. I am currently overhauling the brake system (master cyl, wheel cyl, etc), flushing out fluids (oil, grease, gas, water, etc). The TLC was parked for about a year and the contents of the tank turned to varnish. When I first started it it smoked REALLY BAD! I was prepared to toss the engine, however, with motor flush, among other things, It didn't turn out to be all that bad. The smoke is reduced to little puffs between shifts at high revs. Hopefully it just has alot of cobwebs that need to be cleaned out (literally). The motor hums pretty good and there is no blow-by from the valve cover nor oil in the tail pippipe. I plan to replace all the major seals and get it ready for inspection. Other momods include aluminum rims with 33x12.5 AT's and a lift if necessary, bikini top, half doors, new seats (front & back), new paint (orig sky blue) with 1/8" sheet metal to replace the rear fender problem areas, fender flares, steps, shocks, steering stabilizer shock, off-road lights, and a partridge in a pear tree. The best part of all this is that (after some haggling) I only paid $350. The mechanics should hopefully be done within the next week or so. The new paint & body work should be started by the end of the month, unless there is a funding problem. This is a second (kinda third) fun vehicle and it's hard to spread out the funds evenly.
