Skillfully piloting their BJC
Commercial Investments/BFGoodrich-sponsored Chevrolet Trophy truck,
the top-ranked duo of Brian Collins and Brian Stewart took second
in Trophy Truck and fifth overall at the 7th Annual SCORE Las
Vegas Primm 300, Saturday, September 14.
Covering the grueling, extremely dusty 284-mile run in five
hours, four minutes and forty-seven seconds, Collins and Stewart
averaged 55.908 miles per hour.
Starting in
the Number One spot, Collins thundered off the startline. "We were
really going strong," he explains, "when a rock flew up and broke
the left brake line fitting. We were down a little over seven
minutes fixing it and that lost us a few positions." As soon as the
problem was fixed Collins was off and making up lost minutes. By
the end of the second lap, he was back up to third.
"Apart from the monstrous dust, I ran problem free
after we fixed the brake line fitting," said Collins. "We did a
driver change on Lap 3 and Brian Stewart took over and did just a
great job. He brought the truck home second and that has put us
just forty-six points out of the lead. The Baja 1000 pays 105
points, and the top three are all within a few points of each
other. It's definitely going to be a race to the finish and Brian
and I plan to be there at the end. "
"This
truck definitely moves," said Stewart. "This is the first time I've
driven it in a race and it is really awesome. The Collins
Motorsports crew definitely know their stuff and I think we can win
the Baja with this truck."
Equally as
enthusiastic was Brian Collins, Jr., who made his debut in his
dad's truck at this race and rode the entire event with no thought
of getting out before the end. "Wow, what a ride," said the
obviously tired, but happy 15 year old. "I can't wait 'til I can do
this again."
One of the best-known teams
the off-road industry, Collins Motorsports has more than proven
themselves over the years. With both the ability of Brian Collins
and Brian Stewart, plus that of the entire Collins Motorsports
crew, their chances of doing well at the upcoming Baja 1000 are
excellent. Don't count this team out.
