Racing Superstar Jeff Ward Shatters Speed Record!

Jun. 11, 2010 By Press Release
FALLON, NV--From motorcycles, to Indy Cars, to Short Course Race Trucks, Racing Superstar Jeff Ward has always been just plain fast. But never faster than he was on June 10 where Ward crushed his personal speed record, racing to a supersonic speed approaching Mach 1.8 or nearly 1,100 mph in an F/A-18 Hornet from the Navy Fighter Weapons School, TOPGUN at Naval Air Station Fallon.

Jeff Ward, this year’s Grand Marshall at Fallon’s Octane Fest, couldn’t resist the invitation to fly with a TOPGUN pilot in the same style aircraft flown by the Navy’s Blue Angels, and which demonstrated its superior capabilities in Operation Desert Storm.

“This was one of the most amazing experiences of my life.  It was awesome.  I don’t know if I’ll ever top it.  It was an honor and a privilege flying with Captain Cheever,” Ward said.  “The pilot and aircraft are one up there.  The precision with which the ground crew and the pilot approach each flight opened my eyes to the pride involved in the service to protect our nation.  Wow,” Ward said.

Ward, a racing legend who was a motocross phenomenon and Indy 500 driver, will be among the racers in Speed Technologies’ SuperLite Invitational truck race in Fallon on Saturday at Octane Fest, northern Nevada’s largest motorsports event.  He’ll race against other racing stars including Jeremy McGrath, Ricky Johnson, Carl Renezeder, John Harrah, and Brian Deegan among others.

Ward is also the guest speaker at the June 10 Octane Fest celebrity dinner that benefits the Churchill County High School Auto Shop Scholarship Fund.

Octane Fest features NHRA drag races at Top Gun Raceway, dirt track racing at Rattlesnake Raceway, the Hurricam’s classic car show in Oats Park, and a 3-day, 4 x 4 Jamboree at the Churchill County Fairgrounds.

The jamboree includes rock crawls, motocross, quad wars, TUFF Trucks, mud drags, monster trucks, and a motor home demolition derby.  Information is at OctaneFest.com and tickets are $10 each day or $20 for a 3-day jamboree pass with a $10 off coupon from any Northern Nevada Toyota Dealer.

Octane Fest is the largest multi-discipline motor sport event in Northern Nevada. Tickets for the event are $20 for the weekend Jamboree Pass (fairgrounds only). Day passes for the fairgrounds are also available for $10/day.
