Adventure Trailers LLC Unveils the “Chaser™” Off Road Trailer

Feb. 28, 2006 By Press Release

The new “Chaser™” from Adventure Trailers (AT) displays the company’s tradition of quality and cutting edge design. The formed steel panel construction, and newly designed long travel air suspension provides a smooth journey over the most challenging of terrain, while maintaining exceptional control on the highway.

The Chaser™ is reminiscent of the military 416 trailer in style, with the whole concept technically updated. “The original design was very utilitarian and we didn’t want to lose any of those lines” said Davies of AT.“We built on that concept, modernized it and engineered it to be fully equipped with our line of modular accessories.”

The Chaser™ offers 46 cubic feet of storage and a weather-tight lid. It can be customized for a wide range of duties. The Surfing edition will be marketed through Wetsand.com, the largest surfing retailer on the net. The WaveChaser™, as it is dubbed, will have a rooftop tent, awning, kitchen, water tank, gas cans, and a fridge. “We’ve incorporated a large rack that will accommodate the tent and surfboards” said Mario Donovan, V.P. for Production at AT. “ The Chaser™ is very versatile. We can set it up for a combination of different sports such as surfing, mountain biking, kayaking and float tubes, for example.”

The Chaser™ excels in its role as an expedition trailer, “I’ve consulted with AT to produce afully equipped trailer that’s for travelers, not tourists” said Scott Brady from Expeditions West. “The new suspension system is key to overland use, providing increased compression travel, and tuned damping to manage the range of trail surfaces encountered off-highway. Using this new suspension, AT trailers are fully field-serviceable, which is essential for any trailer going to remote locations. Pair that with the 46 cubic feet of storage for gear and you’ve got a winning combination” said Brady.

AT ’s suspension system employs a long trailing arm in conjunction with an airbag and shock absorber. The ride is far superior to either leaf springs or torsion axles. “The decision to move to this new system came from our experiences in Baja” said Donovan. “We developed a suspension that would hold up to the conditions down there while protecting cargo and providing a high quality towing experience.”

The bolt-together panelized construction of the Chaser™ is available fully assembled or in kit form. “The base trailer can be put together with regular hand tools in about 4 hours” said Donovan. “In the course of a weekend, assembling a fully equipped trailer wouldn’t be out of reach for the average handyperson.”

The Chaser™ reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to quality and design. You’ll find nothing dated about the Chaser™, apart from its retro look. Coming in at 700 lbs, this trailer can be easily towed by a vehicle as small as a Subaru Outback, while at the same time looks at home behind a Hummer. With the fully adjustable suspension, it can run from 31” to 38” tires.

While Donovan provides the in-depth 4X4 experience for AT, Davies contributes a wealth of expedition and family camping knowledge; this winning combination has paid off once again for AT in the new Chaser™ design.

AT is a Southern California based company with the production facility in Colton. In addition to the Chaser™ they also produce the larger Horizon™ Off Road trailer. AT has also designed rugged trailers for medical service applications as well as custom configurations for outfitters and adventure tour companies. The Chaser ™ is designed in a modular fashion so accessories can be bolted in place at any time. This component approach allows the owner to customize the trailer to their requirements and budget. The total cargo carrying capacity is a whopping 2000 lbs and 46 cubic feet. The expandable roof rack system allows for a variety of different accessories, so carrying bikes, boards, or kayaks is no problem. The air bag suspension system was designed by our engineering department in response to our experiences in brutal off road conditions in Baja California. The beauty of the suspension is that it provides a premium ride both on the highway and on the trail. As Scott Brady from Expeditions West said “I’ve consulted with AT to produce a fully equipped trailer that’s for overland travelers, not tourists” The Chaser ™ is available in kit form for the weekend mechanic and fully assembled for those who require a turn-key package.
