"Dukes of Hazard" Movie Preview

Aug. 01, 2005 By ORC STAFF

I would just like to start off by thanking Rhino Lining USA for inviting us to the activities and movie preview.  Rhino Linings had their act together on this one. I showed up to their office in San Diego and wasn't expecting what I saw. I pulled up and saw not one, but three mini-rock-crawlers and one full-size crawler. These crawlers made by Rhino Off-road are turn key off-road machines. These are some nice looking trucks.

Oh, and they had some really good BBQ food. (Sorry no picture of that)

From the looks of the RTV, they seem to have a Ford 9" front and rear axles, and are powered by a Honda 4cyl car engine

Here is their larger off road machine. These were very well built, and fully detailed with every option you could want.

And of course, we couldn't forget this guy. The star of the show, a 1969 Dodge Charger.

Now, on to the movie review.

Going into watch the ?Dukes of Hazard? you hope the movie captures the spirit of the 1980 television show.  The idea of Right (the Duke family) against Wrong (Boss Hogg) the idea of great cars and great chase scenes.  You don?t ask for a deep story line or profound revelations.  I think the movie captures the fun and light-heartedness of the TV show.  The movie centers on Bo and Luke Duke trying to save the family farm and Hazard County from Boss Hogg.  Just as in the TV series the movie follows the Duke boys on their run from the law making for entertaining chase scenes through out the South.

Sean Williams Scott and John Knoxville play Bo and Luke Duke providing for fun dialogue and hilarious antics.  They are perfect to play two guys who like to blow stuff up and drive fast.  Willy Nelson as Uncle Jessie is a perfect fit and his one line jokes are hilarious.  Burt Reynolds plays Boss Hogg and even though he isn?t as fat as I would have liked, he pulls off the sleazy politician beautifully.  And those Daisy Duke jeans were done proud by Jessica Simpson.  Even though she only few lines in the whole movie she is definately a noticeable character.

General Lee is a character unto itself.  The Hemi powered Charger is in practically every scene drifting around corners and flying over broken bridges.  The chase scenes really do make the movie along with a great sequence of shots during a rally race through Hazard County.  Muscle cars are featured through out the movie giving General Lee a run for its money.

The stunt drivers must be applauded for their role in the movie.  Their excellent skills are shown though the numerous chase scenes both on the dirt roads and through the city of Atlanta.  The level of skill needed in producing these scenes is very evident when watching the outtakes at the end of the movie (a definite must).

Overall ?Dukes of Hazard? is a fun movie. I appreciate how it so closely reflected the TV show we all loved but added some of its own character as well.  If anything you will walk out of the theater with a smiling remembering the cool cars and hot chicks.
