Custom 4x4 Fabrication Diff Guards

Custom 4x4 Fabrication has been well known in the Jeep off-roaders community for quite some time now. They continue to bring great products to market in the primarily in the category of body armor. Bumpers, rockrails, and now Differential Guards.

During our build up of a Dana 44 (more on that in coming months) we looked for some diff protection to guard against those narly rocks that like to eat diff covers and ring gears. Knowing the kind of work Mike and his gang at C4x4Fab can produce we decided that their new diff guards deserved a try. As in the past we were pleased with the product. There really isn't much to them. A cut drilled and bent piece makes up the attachment ring and also provides the top support for the welded round guard bars.

Installation is a snap. Unbolt the diff cover bolts that need to be removed (at the bottom half) so that the diff guard can be placed against the cover. Then reinsert the bolts, and torque to proper specs. You're pretty much done. When you remove those lower cover bolts you may loose a slight bit of gear oil so be prepared to replace any oil that drips out. If your cover was installed with RTV type sealant then you probably won't loose any oil. Once the bolts are tight you're done!

Below are some pics I shot shortly after I painted the D44 to show what the diff guard would look like installed. You might also notice that not all the bolts are in. That's because the differential wasn't done being setup. You'll also notice that in some pics the axle is upside down, also because we were still working on it.
