AutoFab Motor Mounts - Installed on 4.2L Jeep Wrangler

May. 01, 2001 By Tony Carricaburu

INSTALLATION PART 2:

Now that the engine is secured and ready for the motor mounts to be removed, I started removing the factory mounting bolts. There are two bolts per motor mount so removal only took a couple minutes. After removing the motor mounts I examined them.  It's a good thing I decided to replace these because the factory mounts were dead, absolutely destroyed, with heavily dried rubber bushings and the occasional rip or tear on the mount. Below are some pictures of the old mounts just after removing them from the Jeep. I also included a couple of pictures of the old mounts next to the new polyurethane mounts.

INSTALLATION PART 3:

Now that the old motor mounts are removed it's time to install the new AutoFab mounts. I had to raise the jacks under the Jeep because the old mounts were allowing the engine to sit a little lower since they were so worn out and torn. I lifted the jacks approx. 1-2" in order to align the new motor mounts into place. The polyurethane mounts were much stiffer and took a couple of minutes to align them on top of the engine's motor mount brackets. After I lined them up properly, the bolt slid right in. After installing the driver's side mount, I proceeded onto the passenger side and followed the same aligning steps. I made sure that the driver side motor mount was still loose and unsecured, this makes it easier to align the passenger side mount. See pictures below to see the new AutoFab motor mounts installed and ready for use.

FINAL EVALUATION:

It's been about three weeks since I installed the motor mounts and I'm proud to say I've experienced no problems whatsoever. These were definitely a nice addition to my Jeep and its refreshed hi-horsepower motor. I'm no longer worried about the engine ripping the cheap factory equipped motor mounts. Plus my 4.2L doesn't move nearly as much under heavy throttling. To any Jeeper considering a set of polyurethane motor mounts for their Jeep, I highly recommend calling AutoFab for a set of these mounts. The price is great and service was good too.
