Aaron Hawley takes
2nd in Super Buggy and maintains the points lead |
June 11,
2005-Antigo, WI
The rain stayed away for Round 3 of the CORR
Series allowing the program to run smoothly all day. Rain during
the overnight left the track wet for practice but sunny skies and
light winds dried it out nicely in time for the races to start. A
capacity crowd was on hand to see CORR drivers hit the track.
Pro-Lite
Art Schmitt used his front starting position to
take the early lead over Lee O’Donnel and Randy Eller. The
field quickly strung out over the first few laps although some
drivers were advancing through the field. Kyle LeDuc made his way
to 2nd early on while the fight for fifth was between Chad Hord,
Mark Krueger, and Steve Federico. Jeff Kincaid never challenged
after first lap contact damaged his suspension leaving him to nurse
his truck around the track. Chad Hord picked his way up to 2nd
after LeDuc started to fade back through the field. Schmitt lead
for the entire race and was never really challenged with Hord
taking 2nd and Federico moving up to take third.
After the race, Schmitt said,”It feels
good starting in the front, Antigo has been good to us, it’s
been a good day. It’s nice not having to use all your
tear-offs during a race.”

Pro-2
Carl Renezeder mirrored Art Schmitt’s start
and took the lead from the drop of the green. Evan Evans came out
of the second row to move into 2nd behind Renezeder. Kevin Probst
spun out giving 3rd to Scott Taylor early in the race. Renezeder
built up his lead as the race progressed with no one getting near
him. Probst had mechanical difficulties and gave up third to Josh
Baldwin. Renezeder would coast to the easy victory followed by
perennial front runner Taylor, and Baldwin.
Renezeder said after the race,”
It’s nice to start in front, the team has been working hard
and it’s paying off. The track was slick early in the race
but it came around about half way through. We just tried to
maintain a steady pace throughout the race.”

Pro-4
The most interesting race of the day was the Pro-4
race. The front was not the place to be at the start as Rick
Huseman and Johnny Greaves would get locked together in the first
turn causing the field to stack up behind them. Contact amongst the
pack allowed Curt LeDuc to move into the lead from the 7th starting
position. Transmission woes would cause LeDuc to lose the lead to
Josh Baldwin with Jason Baldwin close behind. Carl Renezeder had
his truck set up perfectly for this track and steadily made his way
through the field all the way to the front. Dave Christoferson
caused a bit of excitement when his truck rolled over and briefly
caught fire. The safety crew quickly extinguished the fire as
Christoferson was exiting the truck.
The bizarre incident of the day award goes to Curt
LeDuc who attempted to continue racing while in reverse. He
received a black flag and pulled off near the finish line. However,
he did finish the race by backing over the finish line after the
race winner Carl Renezeder took the checkers. Jason and Josh
Baldwin rounded out the top three.
