Monster Energy Kawasaki's Woods Takes Control of WORCS in Washington

OLYMPIA, Wash. –Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Nathan Woods dominated the eighth round of the WORCS series at Staddleline ORV in Olympia, Wash. with his second-straight win in the northwest state. He continues to close the gap on the Pro class points’ leader.

After taking a two-month break, the WORCS series returned to scenic Washington for a second time this season, with Woods and teammate Ricky Dietrich ready to put in another great performance.

When the gate dropped, Woods moved quickly to earn the holeshot and the early lead. Dietrich was not far behind and by the third lap, he was right on the tail of Woods’ Kawasaki KX™450F. In the final laps of the two-hour race, Woods lengthened his lead and came across the finish with his third win of the season.

“I came into the race really confident,” said Woods. “I have felt good all weekend and knew I could pull-off another win. I had a lot of fun racing with Ricky (Dietrich). I actually did better when he was in front of me and was able to see different lines. I know that I need to keep up the good results in order to win the championship and I am feeling confident that I can be on top.”

Woods has gained considerable ground on the championship battle after missing round three due to injury and now sits only 20-points outside first place.

Dietrich put in a notable performance as he battled for the lead with his teammate. With Dietrich leading Woods, the two were able to pull over a minute gap on third-place. Unfortunately in the last laps, Dietrich stalled his bike on a man-made log section and fell back two positions. He pushed hard to the end and finished with a respectable fourth place.

“I was really excited to come back to my home state to race,” said Dietrich. “I really feel confident when I come to Washington. The race was great and I was having fun upfront with Nathan, but I stalled the bike. After that, I was really drained of energy and was just riding to finish.”

Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Destry Abbott sat out round eight after sustaining injuries at the eighth round of the AMA Motocross Series. He is expected to return to the next WORCS round at the end of August.

In the Pro 2 class, Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green rider Jamie Lanza took over the points lead from teammate Josh Morros. Lanza ended the day with a sixth-place finish, while Morros was unable to race after crashing in Saturday morning’s unclassified race. Morros underwent surgery after suffering a compound fracture to his lower left arm and his return has not yet been determined.

“With as young and talented as Josh is, we expect him to bounce back from this injury in high spirits,” said Off-Road Supervisor Jason Smigel. “Once he gets home and has a chance to see his personnel physician, we will have a good approximation on when he will be able to return to racing.”

The Monster Energy Kawasaki team will be in Monticello, Utah, on August 31, for round nine of the WORCS series.
