Suzuki radically revised their 1990 250 MX machine. Power: The ?90 RM 250 engine delivered little, if any, low-end power. The engine spun through the mid-range and top-end rather quickly. The power was relatively strong, but it was very snappy power that was delivered very hard and fast to the rear wheel. Suspension: The ?90 RM upside down forks and rear suspension could tackle big nasty hits smoothly. The suspension worked very well in nearly all conditions and terrain. It was hard to fault the suspension performance. Handling: The RM turned just about as well as a Honda! The RM was stable at speed again. The bike received a different frame, and with the frame, a different rider compartment layout. The bike was narrower, flatter, and very easy to move around on. Reliability: The bike was fairly reliable. No expensive items failed on a regular basis. There were a few minor reliability things that seemed to blow out easily, like plastic tabs and wimpy fasteners. Odds & Ends: The ?90 RM 250 would make a good trail bike if the engine power did not hit so hard. Die hard ?88 RM 250 fans believed the ?88 model was still better than the ?90 model. |
