The 2015 Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series kicked off its short-course racing series in Lake Elsinore this past weekend. Since the Lucas Oil Cup Races last October, racers have used the off-season to prep their vehicles, test new parts, and sometimes finish construction on entirely new trucks and buggies in preparation for the grinding season that is to come.
Bryce Menzies was clearly ready for this season. He came out and dominated the racing in Pro 2 both days, earning the victory at both Round 1 and Round 2. In Pro 2, Rob MacCachren also had a solid weekend, finishing in third at Round 1 and moving up to second place in Round 3. Jeremy McGrath earned third place at Round 2 while Carl Renezeder took the second-place finish at Round 1.
Menzies not only made his mark on the Pro 2 class, as he also made the podium both days in Pro 4. He finished in second place at Round 2 and third place at Round 1 to complete his podium finish in every race at Lake Elsinore. Last year’s Pro 4 Champion Kyle LeDuc earned the win at Round 2, while Renezeder finished in third place behind LeDuc and Menzies. Renezeder did take the Pro 4 win in Round 1, however, with Doug Fortin challenging him for the win but ultimately had to settle for second.
In Pro Lite, Brad DeBerti swept the field and earned both wins. Sheldon Creed and Jerett Brooks each earned second-place finishes over the weekend, while RJ Anderson earned third place in Pro Lite at both rounds.
