SANTA ANA, CALIF. – (September 12, 2006) The Off-Road Expo presented by Toyota, taking place in Pomona, Calif.,October 7-8., will be home to the first ever United Rockcrawling and Off-Road Challenge (UROC) RockCross Race, a newbreed of off-road motorsport that combines technical rock crawling with head-to-head racing.
“Building upon the popularity of past rock crawling races at the Off-Road Expo in Pomona, we are absolutely thrilled to behosting the new UROC RockCross Race, which promises to give our attendees a thrilling experience they won’t forget,” said Advanstar’s Off-Road Group Director Jim Ryan. “The Off-Road Expo presented by Toyota, back in Pomona for the seventh year, is truly the perfect venue for UROC to demo its new RockCross Race, as thousands of off-road enthusiasts will be watching and cheering for their favorite teams as they go head-to-head against each other for the first time ever.”
Sponsored by BFGoodrich Tires and presented by DIRTsports and Skyjacker Suspension, the UROC RockCross Race is truly America’s newest off-road sport. Headlining competitors racing throughout the weekend will include DIRTsport’s 2005 Driver of the Year and 2005 UROC Super Modified Champion Shannon Campbell. Campbell, along with 2005 UROC Pro Modified Champions “Team Lovell” (driver Brand Lovell and spotter Roger Lovell), will be bringing their competitive rock crawling experience to help pioneer this exciting new form of racing.
“The UROC RockCross Race is an innovative new race that marries the technical skills of rock crawling with the sheer thrill of racing as teams are not only pitted against each other, but also some of the world’s toughest obstacles,” said UROC President Ranch Pratt. “Off-road lovers in attendance at the Expo are going to love this new race since it eliminates boring time trials and each heat will have two teams racing against each other on the rocks the way it should be: one course, two rigs and one finish line!”
