The Moss Brothers Bronco was given 80 minutes to complete 5 laps on the course each day; a timeline which kept them moving at a brisk pace. The combination of a short course which tends to keep racers grouped together, a challenging terrain and a short time limit make this a different type of event from all of the other SCORE races. Saturday’s competition was cold and dry but Sunday brought rain showers, huge puddles and a muddy mess - not exactly the best conditions to have a part fail.
On Sunday, the black Bronco entry blew the driveshaft coming into the infield on the first lap. “I could feel it vibrating and then on the turn, it just popped out,” reported Don Moss. “As muddy as it was, there was no way we could continue with just front wheel drive, so my co-driver and I changed it out, right there. I was worried that we might not finish the race in time, and as it turns out we had a minute to spare !”
The next race in the 2008 SCORE Off Road Racing Series will be the San Felipe 250 on March 14 – 15 in San Felipe, Mexico. The Moss Brothers race team includes BF Goodrich Tires, Deaver Suspension, KC HiLiTES, River City Differential, Bronco Driver Magazine and West Coast Broncos.
