Katech Arms Off-Road Racers With Desert Attack Engines

Dec. 07, 2007 By Press Release

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Katech Performance offers "Desert Attack" engine packages for off-road racers looking to leave the competition in their dust.

Leading off the company's impressive lineup is the Desert Attack 427 with forged pistons, titanium connecting rods and race camshaft.  The purpose-built LS7 is available in 11:1, 12:1 or 14:1 compression configurations and generates up to 680 horsepower and 590 lbs.-ft. torque.  In Dakar Rally form, the engine makes an impressive 370 horsepower and 500 lbs.-ft. torque through a 37.2 mm restrictor.

engineHitting cleanup is a brand new, all-aluminum addition.  The Desert Attack 500 starts with a high-strength billet Dart 6061-T6 aluminum block (exclusive to Katech), adds in liner-less, Nicom-coated 4.205-inch bores and finishes with an all-forged rotating assembly.  The 8.2-liter V8 displaces 500 cubic inches to crank out more than 700 horsepower and 700 lbs.-ft. torque - incinerating all in its path.

"An off-road race engine must be incredibly durable, produce large amounts of power and torque and have superb drivability for technical terrain; no one understands that better than Katech," said Caleb Newman, vice president, director of aftermarket operations, Katech Performance.  "Our legacy is rooted in endurance racing with multiple class wins in the 12 Hours of Sebring, 24 Hours of Daytona and 24 Hours of Le Mans.  With our off-road engine packages we're excited to embrace challenges like the SCORE Desert Race Series and Dakar Rally."

Newman went on to note three prominent off-road teams - Arciero-Miller Racing, Herman Motorsports and McMillin Racing - currently compete with engines prepared by Katech Performance.

"Call us and discuss how we can match price, performance and durability to your requirements," he added.  "Katech is your one-stop-shop for everything from engine supply rotation, proprietary package development and validation to boring, honing and fabrication.  You'll find literally every service you need right here."
