With the temperature hovering around 93 degrees with a heavy afternoon thunderstorm cloud cover, the summer conditions appear to be just perfect for tonights racing.

Friday night's top dog - Rob MacCachren just finished his last perusal of the track on his Yamaha Zuma little moto checking the latest track conditions before be enters one of his three race vehicles.

Rob Mac can captalize on his grand performance from yesterday evening with three possible wins here in Las Vegas. The stands here at the race way are near capacity as spectators continue to roll looking for the best seat in the house. The Trophy Trucks will be raging hard in just a few minutes. Stay tuned for lap-by-lap commentary.

Bilstein 3:00 PM SCORE Desert Racing Update

Las Vegas, Nevada ~ The Friday night action at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway was outstanding as SCORE International returned to the Las Vegas Metropolitan area once again for desert racing. However, this time the action was confined to the 1.5 mile "Chunk of Baja," built by SCORE at the LVMS Dirt Track.

Thousands of desert racing fans filled the grandstands and watched the world's best off-road desert racers take to the track and bump fiberglass and trash chromoly tube as top racers were in search of heat wins heading towards Saturday's Main Event.

Of course, the evening's festivities were not without drama, both on the track and off the track. Off the track in the grandstands, two bouts of over excited fans cheering on their favorite race team turned ugly as emotions and fists flew wildly. Las Vegas Metro Police arrived taking control of the overzealous fans escorting them out of the grandstands, but not before a few haymakers found their mark.

Focusing back on racing, the class of the evening was all about Las Vegas local, Rob MacCachren.

MacCachren scored four heat wins and a third place win. He beat out the class of Trophy Truck racers in Heat 2 and then again topped them all in the Semi-Main event for two of his four wins. Rob Mac also scored wins in Heats 1 & 2 of the Class 10 competition giving him his fourth win of the evening. In the 1/2 1600 class, Mac finished in third postion behind ESPN Commentator - Cameron Steele and Rick Boyer. After Cam Steele's 1/2 1600 win he commented to the crowd that he was here to win big referring to beating MacCachren in the 1/2 1600 Heat 2.

However, after MacCachren won the Trophy Truck Semi-Main he commented, "Was Cameron Steele in that race?"

In other drama, on track mishaps drove up the temperatures of some driver's tempers in what could only be expected when you place off-road desert racers into a confined 1.5 mile race course.

In the Class 1 field, FOX Shox John Marking had everyone beat, but made a slight mistake after launching over the finish line jump spun him out in front of the grandstand. McKenzie's Jeff Quinn passed Marking, but then spun out before heading into the single track where racers leave the DIRT track and enter the asphalt. Marking, blasting ahead on the race course was struck by Quinn who re-entered the race course at a 45 degree angle and heavily damaged the right front A-Arm on the Fox Shox Class 1. Marking continued and finished Heat 1 in fourth position behind Pat Dean in third position, Troy Herbst in second position and Quinn who won the first heat.

Marking & Quinn tangle at Terrible's Cup

Marking arrived back to the pits where his crew began a near entire rebuild of the right front A-Arm. Fox Racing crew member Todd Tenbrok commented, "We had a lot of damage on John's car and Brady got to welding it all back together in order to get John ready for the Semi's. He was using a 110 welder like it was a 3-phase and he's the man!"

Marking made his way down to Quinn's pits where the two racers discussed the racing incident. However, while Marking was making his way back to the pits, Troy Herbst had a few words for Marking. Let's just say he mentioned a racing challenge for the two during Saturday's racing events.

Troy Herbst # 107 heading towards the finish line.

In the Friday night Semi-Main, Pat Dean - Las Vegas Dissemination ran fast throughout the evening's Class 1 finale taking the lead away from Troy Herbst who had taken the lead from the start after dualing with Quinn at the start. But FOX Shox KingPin - John Marking came on strong and was moving quickly through the field before he and Jeff Quinn tangled up once again.

Marking had been running tight on Quinn's bumper through the semi-main race trying to get around the slower Quinn, but had difficulty on the tight course. They both entered the asphalt portion and headed into the bottom turn where many other driver's had banged the concrete K-rail. Quinn headed into the turn and this is where story gets a bit cloudy. Perhaps Quinn spun out and Marking made his pass, or perhaps Marking tapped Quinn and spun him out making his pass, but nonetheless it was a racing incident that is part of racing on a short course.

In the pits after the race, video recounts of the incident were being reviewed by team members. Welcome to short course off-road racing!

Terrible's Herbst pit zone is equal to a NASCAR race operation. Whether they need to rebuild a motor, tranny or host their friends and family, they have it all covered.

The LVMS is about to rage off the hook here in the desert...we'll provide you the most up-to-date action right here on Off-Road.com
