Freestyle Motocross was the intermission entertainment

Carl Renezeder wrapped up the Pro-2 Championship in Round 13 but the Pro-Lite and Pro-4 titles were still to be decided. Chad Hord trailed Jeff Kincaid by 4 points going into Round 14 and Johnny Greaves has been riding a 6 race win streak into the points lead with one race to go. The new drivers faired okay with Jeremy McGrath having the best finish coming in 5 th in Pro-2 in Round 13. After one round of racing they all know what to expect when they hit the track for the final round of racing in the 2005 season. The crowd has been kept entertained by a quick moving schedule and intermission entertainment by the Red Bull Stunt Riders on the motocross freestyle ramp. Round 14 was as exciting as racing gets in the world of short course off-road.

Class 7/7s Race
Biker Sherlock beat out Larry Roeseler in 7/7s

The Class 7/7s trucks were the first on the schedule for Round 14. When the green flag fell to start the first race of the day, Larry Roeseler used his years of racing experience to get the holeshot. However, it would all be for naught as two trucks rolled stopping the race and forcing a restart. The restart saw Billy Manfroy take the early lead followed by Larry Roeseler and Biker Sherlock. On lap two Roeseler and Sherlock would get by Manfroy to reset the order. These would set the pace for the first 8 laps. On lap 9, a hard charging Javier Sacio would take third from Manfroy while on lap 10 Sherlock found a way by Roeseler to the lead. Roeseler kept pressure on Sherlock, but Sherlock would hold on to win at the line with Sacio tying up third.

Single Buggy Race

Michael Seefeldt took Round 14 in Single Buggy

The Single Buggies and 1-2/1600 desert cars were next up. CORR regular John Fitzgerald beat the field off the line to take the lead for the second day in a row. Michael Seefeldt and Terry Fitzgerald gave chase in 2 nd and 3 rd. Aaron Hawley would take the third position from Terry Fitzgerald on lap 3. The top three remained unchanged until lap 8 when Seefeldt would complete the pass for the lead relegating John Fitzgerald to 2 nd. Seefeldt would hold the lead over the final five laps to take the win followed John Fitzgerald in 2 nd and Hawley in 3 rd.

Super Buggy Race

Aaron Hawley won Round 14 in Super Buggy

Gary Nierop lead off the starting line followed by Scott Schwalbe and Larry Foddrill to start the super buggy race. Aaron Hawley would not be left out of the top three for long taking 2 nd on the 2 nd lap and putting Schwalbe back into 3 rd. Hawley would keep moving up taking the lead for good on the 4 th lap. Nierop would hold 2 nd until lap 7 when Schwalbe made the pass. Schwalbe would finish in the 2 nd position. The final top three were set on lap 11 when Jerry Welchel passed Nierop for 3 rd.

Pro-2 Race

Dan VandenHuevel swept the final two rounds in San Diego

The Pro-2 trucks started the pro racing for the afternoon. Once again, the Sportsman 2 trucks were added to the Pro 2 field. Scott Taylor took the holeshot to the lead followed by Steve Barlow and Carl Renezeder. Renezeder made the pass for 2 nd on lap 4 pushing Barlow back to 3 rd. At lap 9, Dan VandenHeuvel cracked the top three getting by Barlow for 3 rd. The order remained unchanged until lap 13 when Taylor would suffer a flat rear tire. Renezeder would get by for the lead. On the next lap, VandenHeuvel would take 2 nd from Taylor. Taylor would get passed by Barlow on the final lap putting Barlow into the 3 rd. When the checkered flag fell, it was determined Renezeder had not served a black flag penalty for passing under the yellow. The resulting reshuffle would give an ecstatic VandenHeuvel who proclaimed, “This is awesome,” his second win of the weekend while Barlow moved into 2 nd and Taylor claimed 3 rd. Of the Sportsmans 2 drivers to finish, Dan Badoux was the top Sportsman 2 driver for the 2 nd day in a row, while Greg Adler would be the runner up.

Pro-Lite Race

Jeff Kincaid won the race and the championship in Pro-Lite

Following the Pro 2 class were the Pro lites. Steve Federico led the field through the first lap while Jeff Kincaid and Kyle LeDuc followed in 2 nd and 3 rd. Lap 4 saw the lead change when Federico went deep into the cushion on turn 3 with the help of LeDuc. Kincaid and Chad Hord would be the beneficiaries moving into 1 st and 3 rd while LeDuc hung onto 2 nd. The order remained the same until lap 11 when LeDuc pushing for the lead ended up on his side in turn three. Hord would move to 2 nd and a persistent Federico, who made up time and two positions, took 3 rd. The battle for the points championship between Kincaid and Hord heated up over the next three laps before Hord rolled out of 2 nd on the final lap giving Kincaid the win and the championship. Federico would capitalize on Hord’s error to take 2 nd. Hord recovered to finish 3 rd. “Yeah, you can never say never”, said an elated Kincaid, who had a run of bad luck early in the season but was able to finish the season strong and claim his 5 th Pro Lite championship.

Pro-4 Race

Greaves comes across the line with a flat tire

In the Pro 4 class, Johnny Greaves needed to only finish 10 th or better to claim the championship. At the start, Carl Renezeder shot the front followed by Jason Baldwin in 2 nd and Rob MacCachren in 3 rd. Greaves took the cautious approach and started out slow. Baldwin lost 2 nd to MacCachren on lap 2 but gained it back on lap 6 when MacCachren retired with mechanical problems. Josh Baldwin would take over the 3 rd position. On lap 9, Josh Baldwin suffered a flat rear tire and on the following the lap Renezeder and Jason Baldwin suffered the same fate. Lap 11 saw Jason Baldwin spin out off the track in turn 3 where he retired from the race. Josh Baldwin inherited 2 nd while a slow and steady Greaves had moved into 3 rd after starting last. Ducking off for a tire repair, Josh Baldwin gave 2 nd to Greaves and Curt LeDuc took over 3 rd. Not to be left out, Greaves suffered flat rear tire on lap 13 but was able to make the pass on Renezeder for the lead. Greaves would not be caught over the closing laps taking an unprecedented 7 th straight Pro 4 win, 44 th career win, and first Pro 4 championship. Renezeder limped home to 2 nd ahead of LeDuc who took home 3 rd. Of his win, an excited Greaves had this to say, “We’re winning races with three tires and this isn’t the first time.

The final races of the day were the desert Trophy Trucks and Class 1 open wheel cars. In the Trophy Truck race, Ed Herbst got the holeshot and an early lead. Jason Baldwin and Marty Coyne followed in 2 nd and 3 rd. Herbst held the lead until lap 3 when Baldwin got by for the lead. As the laps counted down, Herbst kept Baldwin in his sights. Contact on the final lap between Herbst and Baldwin resulted in Baldwin rolling. Herbst would go on for the win while Coyne would make the pass to take 2 nd from Baldwin. Baldwin recovered from the roll to take 3 rd. The Class 1 cars were the last race of the day and wrapped up the racing weekend. John Herder had a great start and powered his way into the lead and never looked back. Andy McMillin tried to close the gap but Herder proved to be too strong. Pat Dean moved into 3 rd place on lap 2 past Rich Ronco. Herder took the win followed by McMillin and Dean.
