The 2019 Jeep Cherokee has been revealed under the lights at the Detroit Auto Show packing a fresh face and a new powertrain.
An all-new 2.0-liter direct injection turbocharged engine can now be had in the Cherokee packing 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque hooked to a nine-speed automatic transmission. That new turbo engine joins the existing Cherokee engine lineup consisting of a 3.2-liter V6 with 271 hp an 239 lb-ft of torque and the small 2.4-liter four-cylinder that makes 180 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque.

The Cherokee’s off-road credentials have been improved as well, with a new Jeep Active Drive I system which introduces next generation rear drive modules, helping to reduce weight and increase fuel economy. Jeep Active Drive II has a two-speed Power Transfer Unit and low-gear reduction while Jeep Active Drive Lock has the two-speed PTU, low range and mechanically locking rear differential. The crawl ratio has also been improved to 51.2:1.

The Cherokee Trailhawk is still available for 2019 as well, boasting a one-inch lift, the Active Drive Lock system, skid plates, red tow hooks and revised fascias for better approach and departure angles. The Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk boasts an approach angle of 29.9 degrees, a departure angle of 32.2 degrees and breakover angle of 22.9 degrees. Ground clearance is 8.7 inches.
Insides, new materials and some small changes to the layout arrive for the Cherokee, along with the latest technology including Uconnect on an 8.4-inch touchscreen. Cargo capacity has been increased in the rear by over three inches to total 27 cubic feet.
Safety technology arrives for the new Cherokee in a large wave as well for 2019, introducing adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, automatic parking functions, forward collision warnings and more.
